I would have to disagree with all of you on this one. Sure, he pushed his ideals based on his faith. As a pastor, I cringed at times when I heard what he had to say. However, the man minstered PERSONALLY to hundreds if not thousands of families in his church where he pastored. He started and grew a school to train pastors to minister to hundred of thousands of other families all over the nation. His theology was solid. A number of times, his comments were taking out of context, other times, comments were attributed to him which he never made.

In the end, he was a man of God, and deserves the respect of one. He was human. He made mistakes. However, if half the pastors/priests in this nation could have half the faith and half the effect that this man had, our congregations, families, and nation would be much better off.

I respect and appreciate what you are saying, Preacher, but IMO the way in which Falwell presented the Gospel at times tended to drive away people rather than draw them. At times he came across as so disdainful and self-righteous...remember his comments after 9/11? I think he made believers look bad...OK, OK you may take issue with that, but I took it that way, imagine how the "un-churched" folks took it.

My condolences go out to this family and his church, of course, but I cannot get too sad about his passing (pray for me...I'm still a work in progress )
