...In other news.

Jerry Falwell is most likely burning in Hell right now. If he was a Christian, he was only in name. He didn't act anything like Christ at all in life. Think about it. If Falwell was in Jesus' shoes, he'd have kept all the fish and loaves and gave them to his students at Liberty University at a very steep price. Mary Magdalene would have been thrown out of his church and reported to the police. If Falwell was at Golgotha, he'd have stepped off the cross and crucified every homosexual on the planet in his place. And he'd have charged a hefty premium to anyone and everyone who would pay along the way to line his pockets.

Jesus was compassionate, which means he was generous and empathetic and sympathetic. The Jerry Falwell I saw was pretty bitter and angry and greedy and selfish and wanted fire and hellstone to rain down on anyone who didn't see exactly the same way he did.

Good riddance.

Well, within the Christian framework judgment of the type you are passing is the sole province of God.

So you can either take the power of God into your hands and judge him this way, or you can simply point out his earthly failings and move on. But if I was to read what Preacher has written correctly, God welcomes all who believe, sins and warts and all.

We ALL have feet of clay. It's who we are. I was no fan of this man, but now he's gone.

I'm just some guy expressing frustration in front of a few people, and I wasn't really judging, just guessing.

He preached intolerance to a giant audience. Here are some of his quotes.

If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being.

AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.

I do not believe the homosexual community deserves minority status. One's misbehavior does not qualify him or her for minority status. Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc., are God-ordained minorities who do indeed deserve minority status.

Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan.

I'm not a fan of his either, I think he was a very destructive force in politics. I never cared for his message of intolerance, and his sense of entitlement and superiority. IMO he embodied the very worst of Christianity. I agree that, in the description of Jesus' time that is conveyed in the Bible, he would be a Pharisee.

But since I'm not a Christian, I can say that! :)

What I found interesting was the way you said it, your interpretation of the message of Christ serving as the rationale for your opinion. I come from a Catholic background, where personal interpretations of the word of God were discouraged; if the message is different for everyone, then there is no message, after all, and the pope's version has as much validity as the Aryan Nation's. That's what I was getting at, using that framework to condemn the man seemed to me to be as imprudent as what he was doing, interpreting the bible to condemn you and me!

But otherwise, I do agree completely with what you actually wrote.
