Thumbs up Porter back to practice

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/trib.../s_371092.html

Linebacker Joey Porter went through an entire practice Monday for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Aug. 10. Porter did not commit to playing in the opener Sunday against Tennessee, referring all injury questions to coach Bill Cowher . Porter said he didn't experience any problems after yesterday's practice. When asked if he's close to 100 percent, Porter shot back quickly. "You have to ask coach Cowher. I don't do percentages. He does my percentages."

# Running backs Jerome Bettis (calf) and Duce Staley (knee) also await their fate for the opener. Staley participated in individual drills for the first time since tearing his lateral meniscus Aug. 8.

Said Bettis, who injured the calf Aug. 26 in a preseason game at Washington: "I felt pretty good, other than that, I'm going to have to defer to upstairs and talk to coach Cowher about that one, but I feel pretty good."

Added Staley: "I feel good. I feel good. I would love to get out there, but I can't go and hurt myself and the team." Cowher said he plans to list Bettis as questionable for the season opener. He also said he won't rush Staley back.

I'd love to see Porter back on Sunday, I'm sure Cowher will have himr est a week. The defense was impressive in the preseason without him, having him back will be interesting. Knowing Bettis, he'll be in the game if he has any word in the decision. Defenitely some good news.

i'm pretty sure porter will play, they probably just trying to put the other team on their heels waiting to see if he'll play, i hope duce waits, for two reason, one i want to see willie get a lot of carries and two i don't want him to rush anything and hurt himself even more and him be out longer. bettis i'm sure they won't even attempt to bring him back this week.

I worry more about the running game w/out our starters than I do about the LB's. Joey is a beast, and has proven that many times over..but Harrison is a very cabable LB as well and getting better every game he plays.. He's definately MORE than adequate to fill in for Joey till he's ready.

I'm with Blitz. I am more concerned about the runningbacks. Joey has a very good backup in Harrison. Our runningback position is shakey in my opinion. I do want to see Willie start but I wish Bettis was in the mix for short yardage. Hoping he will be able to play Sunday.

there ain't going to be no need for a short yardage back, willie is just going to burn everyone with his blazen speed, lol, well i guess i'm being to optimistic but oh well, i hope bettis will be ready too, so he can have another 3 touchdown 1 yard game

Porter back would be awesome. Bettis back would be great. Staley??? I am starting to question his heart a bit. I know he is hurt. But just his halfed ass answer. We hopefully wont be needing his services much longer. Parker.

Porter will be back and ready...Cowher would be wise to hold Duce until after the bye week. If Parker doesn't get the job done (although I expect he'll be fine), it will be tempting to put Duce back in, but if Parker can't do the job, Staley just became that much more valuable.
