Default Rosie vs. Elizabeth

Considering how much media air time this on-air fight has generated, I was wondering if anyone has experienced any of the same "friction" with personal friends or family members as a result on their political feelings about the invasion and occupation of Iraq?

I've actually heard of situations where best friends and family members will no longer speak to each other as a result of the divided nation we have become under Bush.

Thoughts?

Odonnell and Hasselback Let it Rip on "The View"

NEW YORK (AP) -- Watching Rosie O'Donnell and Elisabeth Hasselbeck squabble on ABC's "The View" is nothing new, but Wednesday's dustup seemed particularly nasty with the co-hosts trading accusations and personal digs.

A political discussion over the war in Iraq became heated when an angry O'Donnell decried Hasselbeck for not standing up for her when media outlets suggested that she'd called U.S. troops "terrorists" during a previous debate.

"What you did was not defend me. ... I asked you if you believed what the Republican pundits were saying -- you said nothing, and that's cowardly," O'Donnell said.

Responded a stern Hasselbeck: "Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe." (Watch the two attack each other )

O'Donnell and Hasselbeck were shown on a split screen as the argument progressed without commercial interruption.

"Do you believe that I think our troops are terrorists? And you would not even look me in the face, Elisabeth, and say, 'No, Rosie,' " O'Donnell said.

Responded Hasselbeck: "Because you are an adult, and I am certainly not going to be the person for you to explain your thoughts. They're your thoughts! Defend your own insinuations!"

O'Donnell, who is leaving the ABC daytime talk show next month, said she wasn't going to fight anymore. "So for three weeks, you can say all the Republican crap you want."

Hasselbeck discussed the war of words in an interview with syndicated entertainment show "Extra" that was to air Wednesday evening.

"I honestly think, I believe that we are mature women who can resolve," she said. "I hope we can. I would hope that a disagreement or a heated debate wouldn't be the end of a relationship."

In a posting on her blog, O'Donnell wrote: "a split screen, new heights, or lows, depending on who u ask."

I have come at odds with friends and family members...but we never let it get to the point where we end the friendship/don't talk to eachother.

And about Rosie O'Donnel:

She made a comment that was easily construed to be that she thought the US troops in Iraq were terrorists.

Then Hasselbeck gave her the oppurtunity on the show to explain her remarks and defend herself.

Rosie then got all pissy because Hasselbeck wouldn't defend her.Rosie then wouldn't let Hasselbeck get a word in egde-wise or let her explain that she doesn't feel that Rosie is anti-troop,however also doesn't need to defend her.

Rosie O'Donnel is a grown ass adult. She should be able to defend herself after making her stupid remarks. It isn't Liz Hasselbeck's job as a co-worker or a friend to defend her.

Liz did what she should have done, she gave Rosie the chance to explain herself and clear-up any misconceptions of her beliefs.

When my friends say or do something stupid,I give them the chance to defend themselves. That is all I must do as a friend, give them the chance to defend themselves and explain why they said or did something.I can't explain why someone would say or do something, that's up to the person who did it.

My thoughts on the war and occupation:

When we went into Iraq in 2003 I supported it,and I still do.Saddam Hussein was a terrorist and he enabled other terrorists. It falls under the broad "War on Terrorism".

The occupation however is a damned-if-we-do,damed-if-we-don't situation. All those anti-Bush people that are saying get the troops out of there will be on the flip-side of the subject if the US were to withdrawl all of thier troops suddenly. It's thier nature,to them any desicion he makes is wrong, even if it's what they have been asking for.

The pros to the troops staying are that there is a force in Iraq that will keep another dictator like Saddam from taking the country over again,at least in the near future.

The cons are that we have troops dying for a cause the American people are believeing in less and less.

The pros of troop withdrawl are that our guys come home and are safe.

The cons is that it will leave a vulnerable country there for the taking. And if another dictator were to rise up to power, everyone would blame Bush.

Anyone who would let their close friendships or family relationships fail over political feelings needs therapy in my opinion.

It's kind of like if you and a drunk buddy are in a bar and he starts messing with somebody and, like a drunk moron, gets in a fight and looks for you to get his back. I say "Hey man, if you are attacked and didn't provoke it, then I am there, but if your drunk ass starts something, then your drunk ass has to finish it!"

Exactly!

The only time I jump in for that situation is when my friend starts winning so the oher guys friend wants to jump in and help out his buddy. That is just a no-no in my book.

I am not even sure Rosie is female so that might not be a fair fight.

Anyone who claims to believe a major $$ business relationship in any line of work is primarily a close friendship instead is asking to be disappointed - if Rosie needs an opinion on that point, she can just ask Faneca how that works.

I've noticed that the people who have to constantly claim that they support the troops are the people who really don't support the troops at all. Otherwise, doesn't all this seem like a ratings grab?
