Default Most Over-rated Wide Receiver?

Okay, this is the second in the series of polls to help build the Steelers Fever 'All-Overrated' team.

Again, this is a poll to find find the player with the biggest gap between his actual production and his salary or public/media perception.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

While Antwaan "Ted Ginn Sr." Randle El is a glorified punt returner who got WAAAAAY too much money, I don't feel like he is really hyped up. So he can hardly be overrated in the purest sense of the word.

Even if production has dropped off in Oakland, Randy Moss is the real deal. Same with T.O. (who led the league in T.D. last year) and Chad. All three have put up multiple 1,000+ seasons and even though all three guys have explosive personalities, they can flat out play.

I feel like Plex was placed in here to draw some Steeler fan fire, Nigel... You won't trick me... Realistically, Burress was only 12 yards away from a 4th 1,000 yard season in NY last year.

While the rest of the guys probably won't agree, it has to be Deion Branch. First, he makes a big fuss in NE about his contract, holdsout to no end, and then gets shipped off to Seattle. What were they really getting? A guy who, in his five years, has NEVER put up 1,000 yards (thought he came VERY close in '05) and NEVER scored more than 5 TDs.

The 'Hawks make an in season move to acquire the guy, toss the playbook and a pair of hideous green gloves at him, cross their fingers, then, to make matters worse, decide... "hell, maybe he'll produce better if we give him some more looks by TRADING OUR BEST RECEIVER TO A DIVISION RIVAL." That is A LOT of backbending for a guy who has put up numbers similar to Marty Booker...

Branch may be big someday, but at this point it seems like a hell of a lot of eggs in one basket out there in Seattle.

His final season in NE was pretty solid, but in his five years he has NEVER put up 1,000 yards (thought he came VERY close in '05). His best TD production is only 5 (in the same year).

Nice post, Zilla.

Yeah, I put Plax in becasuse I was sure that some people would want him as an option.

This year is a kind of make-or-break for Branch, I think - he made a big deal about getting paid now its time to show what he's got.

Patriots WR's tend not to do too well outside of the New England system - Patten, Givens etc...

I think a full pre-season should greatly help, along with a 100% healthy Hasselbeck.

Hey, Nigel, I'm not sure what you were planning to do with this but I suggest we make an overrated team and then an underrated team and compare stats at the end of the year...

Too extensive? Just an idea...

Thats a nice idea, and I don't think it would present too much of a problem as most of the heavy stats-work is easily available.

I'll keep the positions to the purely skills based ones so that the measurables are more obvious.

We'll get the 'Over rated' team sorted...then give it a short break...then move on to the 'Under-rated' guys.

It's gotta be Branch.

He held out because he wanted payed by New England (I didn't realize he was playing for free).

But he's never had a season of 1,000 yards or more than 5 TD's.He's put up the numbers of a #2 reciever at best but gets paid like he's been putting up #1 reciever numbers.

All this off of one SB MVP award...which Brady would have won if he didn't fumble.

Branch.

In 5 years he has averaged about 50 catches...750 yards...and a little over 3 Tds a season

Randle El averages less ....until you add the 9 TD's and 4,000+ yards form ST and passing....which gives him enough added value to nudge past Branch

I would have to go with deon branch. The only reason he did good on the pats is because he had brady now on the seahawks he blows and was the number 2 wr last year on the team. now he has to fill the job as a #1 WR. The seatlle WR core is in for alot of trouble this year

Moss, if we're talking about today and not what he used to be. He has clearly lost a step, not to mention the willingness to take a hit. Moss has always been a front runner, as soon as the going gets rough he'll quit on his team. He's proven that twice already.
