Violent Crime up 2.6%

I'm not really sure what to make of this. Although the quote from the Nation of Islam leader was amusing. If he thinks the education system in Pittsburgh is failing, he really needs to get out more.

Last I heard we had some of the better high school and college education systems in the country. I could be wrong.

Mr. X did make one good point, "responsibility falls on people in the communities to stem the increase". Instead of blaming the "system" it's nice to hear somebody actually put some type of responsibility/blame on the people themselves.

I would love to have the violent crime rate of Pittsburgh (I dont want any crime really but if I had to chose). Right now so far in Baltimore we have around 118 homicides for the year. And that does not include violent crimes. Per capita Baltimore is second only to Detroit in violent crimes for the population size. I dont know how they count violent crime in Pittsburgh but here they count them by incidents. That means that if there are 6 dead bodies at a single shooting they count that as 1 incident. Or if they find 12 battered citizens in the street that is 1 incident. Our numbers could theoretically be astronomical.

Yeah and unfortunately he has taken some massive heat for his past comments. IMO, Cosby's comments were refreshing. Speaking of good education in Pittsburgh and Bill Cosby, he recently spoke at Carnegie Mellon University.

I still say Pittsburgh is a safe and liveable city. But something has to be done about the return of the gangs and the rise in violent crime. I just don't know what.

Stop people from moving out of Cleveland and Cincinnati to Pittsburgh - that should curtail it.

Philly is insanly dangerous. I have college friends that live there and when I go see them its nuts. We will watch the news and thats all you hear is how people are getting killed all over the place. It could be such a cool city too. Its a shame.

Philly proper is rough. The suburbs aren't that bad though. I have family in West Chester and it's a pretty safe spot.
