Default Lindy's pre-season Pro Football

Well the pre-season editions of Pro-football magazines are starting to come out...I bought the Lindys mag last night and thought I would share some of the points that they made on the team...the players..and our draft picks.

1) They have us picked to finish third in the AFC North...and not make the playoffs mostly due to the changes in coaching staff... BUT they do say that with the players we have , there is a chance for a superbowl run if everyone gets onboard.

2) They call Ike Taylor's 2005 season "outstanding", and think that he could return to form, but they do not include him as one of the 10 best #1 CB's

3) They DO have Bryant McFadden listed at #10 in the list of 10 best #2 CB's...(and finally call Polamalu the best safety in the game.

4) They predict an O-line of Smith/Faneca/Mahan/Simmons/Starks...but say that Kimo, Colon, and Stephenson will either push for or be groomed for starting slots.

5) They say that Timmons will eventually be "steadier" than Porter....Woodley could be a "sack machine"....Spaeth could make an impact as a "glorified tackle and short yardage tight end"...Sepulveda will be an immediate improvement to Gardocki...McBean is "fast and athletic" but will need to be groomed...Stephenson is "versatile and a weight-room standout" but needs to improve his footwork....Gay has a "meanstreak" which should show up on special teams....and Baker was called "reliable but slow" and well worth the pick.

That lindy's is usually one of the very ones that I buy. I like the writters and they usually make pretty good sense. I just hope that they are wrong this year....

As for our ranking i'm not going to listen much to that, but I like what I see about the improvements overall in the team.

Pre season predictions are about as accurate as guessing the weather 6 mos in advance. Might as well look in the Farmers Almanac. Lindy sucks, I pick the Steelers

I dont bet my life savings on their predictions but they are fun to read and see what kind of fantasy picks they usually have.

Lindy's is a joke.

Give me Street and Smith as well as Athlon over them any day.

I'm cool with being picked 3rd in the division - I like being under the radar.

I think we were picked second in the division the year we won the superbowl..so yea...ita all good.

What really caught my eye was the "glorified tackle" tag that was place on Spaeth...I know others have made that comment here in the forum...but I will wait and see what happens...interesting.
Also the inclusion of McFadden as on of the top 10 #2 CB's....seems a little premature..but I will take it!!!

I assume the predicted order of finish is Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Browns. If so, I definitely don't agree with that.

The Ravens are the defending division champs and rightfully so. Let's be honest, they had are number last year.

The Bengals are an 8-8 team that have had as many subtractions as additions in the offseason where they need help, on defense. To the casual football fan, I suppose they are exciting to exciting to watch because it's all offense. And there loudmouth receivers remind of a line from Shakespeare, "a tale told by a fool, full of sound and fury, signifying... nothing."

The Browns are...well...the Browns.

On the Steelers, they took the safe bet and said coaching change = bad season but thats too easy. Usually coaches change on struggling teams so it takes a while to catch up. This is more like when John Gruden took over a Tampa team that was almost there and took them to the Super Bowl. Tomlin and staff are inheriting a very talented team coming off a bad season. Also, the defensive system is staying basically the same and we have a lot of returning veterans. Same system, same coordinator, same players = consistency. I think the Steelers D will be as good, possibly better, than the last two years.

In my heart, of course I've got the 2007 Steelers coming home with number 6. There's a lot we don't know but that's why they play the games.
