Miami players blast Ginn pick

Looks like Pittsburgh isn't the only target for the suddenly outspoken Dolphins team.

Here are a few choice quotes from some Miami vets regarding the selection of Ted Ginn Jr with the 9th overall pick in this years draft.

let veteran defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday tell it: "With the ninth pick they took a guy who is basically a kick returner -- a hurt kick returner. Here were are in June, and he hasn't been in camp yet. Maybe he'll come in eventually and become a better route-runner and make some plays. But I couldn't believe it then, and I can't believe it now."

It didn't help that Taylor, appearing as a call-in guest on a Miami radio station minutes before the selection, had proclaimed that selecting Quinn was "a no-brainer" -- only to come off like a befuddled outsider after Roger Goodell strolled to the podium.

"You notice the commissioner kind of paused before he read the name," Taylor says. "Like even he couldn't believe it."

Holliday had his own draft-day moment of revolting revelation. He was standing on the patio of his offseason home in Atlanta's Buckhead district, grilling his delectable specialty ("Best steaks east of the Mississippi," he insists), when his wife, Eboni, came rushing outside with the news.

"What did we do?" Eboni asked. Her husband nearly dropped his spatula. "About 45 seconds later," he recalls, "my phone rang. It was JT. I answered it and said, 'I know. I know. I can't believe it.'"

"Needing a young quarterback for the future, you'd think picking Quinn would've been a no-brainer," Holliday says. "I mean, the setup was perfect. It's hard enough to get the fans (in South Florida) to come to the games, and now you piss them off? But hey, they must have a plan."

"Ginn Jr. needs to call up Hester and thank him," Holliday says. "I guess that's what they're hoping he'll be."

I think Cameron needs to get back control of his locker room - its bad enough vet players going 'off message' without actually openly voicing concerns about the F.O's draft strategy.

As much as I think the Ginn pick is a bad one, this type of publicity must be tough for him especialy from guys he probably looks up to.

Maybe it'll make him a mentally stronger player, who knows?

Took the words out of my mouth. What a disaster. Ginn only has to overcome an injury, pressure from an entire fan base who didn't want him, and now his own TEAMMATES who didn't want him. Add all of this to the fact that he still has to go through the rookie trial of proving he can even cut the mustard at the next level.

Tons of guys come up and can't even produce with perfect health, support of fans, and the support of teammates...

I'm sure the Bears fans were wondering about their pick of Devin Hester last year as well. Now, he was a pro-bowler last year and I'm sure the Bears fans dont mind they picked him at all now. Does this mean automatically that Ginn Jr. is gonna be instant lightning in a bottle for the Dolphins? I dont know, but the fans and Especially his own teammates should be supportive to him, at least give the young man a chance..

The Dolphins are turning into a train wreck. Not as bad as the Lions, but it's getting pretty bad down there. No Playoff appearance since 2001, a QB Carousel, the Ricky Williams fiasco, Coaches coming and going, Nick Saban, now this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Dan Marino turn down a Dolphins front office job a few years ago?

Sounds like Taylor was projecting his frustrations with his own team when he claimed the Steelers were a mess.

The Browns pick of Quinn may turn out to be like the Dolphins drafting Marino after a number of other teams passed on Dan in '83, but FWIW it was not as if Quinn went right after Ginn - something bothered the scouts about Brady, who presumably were looking more for arm strength and sound mechanics than a stylish haircut.

The Bears didn't pick him with the 9th overall pick with a potential future star QB staring them in the face. It's a completely different scenario.
