Yep, not much at all, upon further investigation:

The 11th overall pick in the 1999 draft, Culpepper restructured his contract shortly after being traded to Miami in 2006. He is set to count $6.375 million against the 2007 salary cap. A trade or release would result in a meager $625K cap hit. If released, the Dolphins could spread that hit out over two seasons if they wish.
And the Dolphins can spread that $625K over 2 seasons because he would be a post-June 1 cut, if he goes untraded.

PFT is under the impression that Dolphins will be liable for the full $5.5million salary should Dante get injured while practicing with Miami.

This makes the most sense and gives the most logical explanation as to why he was escorted from the field.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

so taylor thinks the steelers have a "mess". i guess thats better than our own coach calling our team a "circus":

Quote of the Week II
"If I'm just a guy down the street and I pick up a newspaper and I see it, I think it's a circus. It's not a circus around here.''
-- Miami coach Cam Cameron, on the strange story of Daunte Culpepper being on the team but not being allowed to practice while the Dolphins try to trade him ... and with Culpepper, acting as his own agent, trying to work out a trade for himself.

Didn't Steve McNair have this problem last year before going to Baltimore? Didn't he get some sort of compensation out of it too?
