WASHINGTON (AP) -- Kellogg Co., the world's largest cereal maker, has agreed to raise the nutritional value of cereals and snacks it markets to children.

The Battle Creek, Mich., company avoided a lawsuit threatened by parents and nutrition advocacy groups worried about increasing child obesity. Kellogg intends to formally announce its decision Thursday.

The company said it won't promote foods in TV, radio, print or Web site ads that reach audiences at least half of whom are under age 12 unless a single serving of the product meets these standards:

--No more than 200 calories.
--No trans fat and no more than 2 grams of saturated fat.
--No more than 230 milligrams of sodium, except for Eggo frozen waffles.
--No more than 12 grams of sugar, not counting sugar from fruit, dairy and vegetables.

WOW...this means that the only Tiger representing an empty...over-hyped... valueless... product will be....Who Dey!!!!

wow!! do these parents ever stop to think thier kids turn into butterballs because thier sittin on thier asses all day, playing video games instead of being outdoors getting exercise? i guess its a lot easier blamin someone else,instead of yourself...

Very true! Inactivety is number one, in my book, as the main contributor to childhood obesity. Time to go outside and play! Second is definitely the un-nutritional value of that which people allow their kids to consume.

Next time you're in line at the grocery store check out the contents of the baskets. It's sad to see obese parents with obese kids with nothing but soda & junk food. I wish I could help them understand what they're doing to my health insurance costs!

When I was a kid, it was Cheerios or Cream of Wheat (the cheap version). Now my breakfast is usually BBQ Chicken Breast, oatmeal with blueberries, rasberries & bananas, 16 oz of H2o, GAC fruit juice, and LifePak Nanotechnology vitamins & minerals. Damn I'm hungry just thinking about it!

When I was a kid I ate frosted flakes regularly and never got fat because I spent most of my time playing outside or at some kind of sports pracrice or game.

I had no computer,no video games,and no cable TV and there was no way in hell I was watching soaps with my mom!

And when I went to my Grandparents on the weekend,they had cable TV.I would watch cartoons on Saturday morning,play outside for the day,and watch SNICK (block of programming on Nickoledeon) on Saturday night.Sunday mornings was wake up,eat breakfast,go to church,come home eat dinner and watch football.Before football,and after,I would be outside playing.

The "blame others for our problems, It's not my fault" society strkes again.

Maybe if the parents didn't let the kids sit on their butts, restrict their feeding, put them on a diet, and get them exercise, we wouldn't have this obesity problem. But staying inside won't make you obese. It's what you do inside that makes you obese. I stay inside most of the time and I'm relatively fit.

This is bullshit. The parents who don't parent are just looking for an excuse to keep doing what their doing, which is not taking care of their children. If their child is obese, it's their own damn fault, not a cereal mascot's.

If anything, have the parents even seen the inner message of the recent Frosted Flakes commercials? They have kids doing sports and being active in them! It means GET OUT and BE ACTIVE.
