I'm going to Pittsburgh for my first time on July 16h. my plan is to take a tour of Heinz Field at Noon then walk around the city a little bit, grab a bite to eat etc. At 7:00 I will head to PNC to see a Pirates game. --One thing i want to do is get a Roethlis-burger-- From doing some research ive found out the "peppi's" is the place to get this. Where is that in relation to Heinz Field (anywhere near it?) What else should i check out in the few hours between Heinz and the game?

Right down the road a bit from the stadium (at the border to the strip district) on smallman st. is the Senator Hienz Western PA History Center. If you're from the burgh it'll take you back a few years (to some stuff I remember as a child), but even if you're not- you gotta check out the Western PA Sports Museum there.
I went there when I was in town last year, and it is simply awesome. Joe Greene's helmet from our first Super Bowl. Franco's shoes from the immaculate reception. (just the tip of the iceberg). Definitely check it out, I promise any Steeler fan would not regret it. http://sports.pghhistory.org/ Oh, and a couple blocks further in the strip is the original Primanti Bros., no trip to Pgh would be complete without stopping there! Yinz have fun! |

if its your 1st trip and youre on limited time i would suggest getting across the river for the incline ride, or take the gateway clipper tour. the science center or warhol museum are nearby, but i wouldnt suggest that for a trip on limited time. a walk down the stip or to the point is always nice for taking in the sights. as a kid i went swimming in the fountain and thought that was the coolest thing. just seeing it upclose and the view of the point, the rivers and the buildings is cool in and of itself and dont take too much time or cost anything!

Oh and there's a Peppi's right around the corner from Heinz field.
Just loop around North Shore, underneath Ohio River Blvd until you hit Western Ave and it's right there. And yeah, Tony's right- The incline is a great way to see the city |

after thinking about it, scratch the clipper boat ride suggestion. it is more of a casual thing to do when you have lots of time to blow in pittsburgh (it can take up to 3 hours to get there, wait, and take the actual tour). if you did it on your 1st trip, you may be left wondering why you wasted so much time to float on a boat.
the incline ride however is close, totally unique, and can be accomplished in less than 45 minutes (depends on how much time you wanna spend up top to absorb the view).

My reccomandation would be to walk across the bridges ride up the incline (either one the Duquense may be a little easier of a walk from the North Side), checkout the mushrooms, back down and stop at the point. Have fun with whatever you choose and post a few pics when you get back. |
