SF,
Just got back from a short two days of Salmon & Halibut fishing in a place called Ucluelet on Vancouver Island, BC. Had to take a small eight passenger plane from Vancouver Airport, and landed on this tiny runway. Awesome fishing! First day the four of us, my big brother, brother in-law, and mom's new husband, limited on Chinook Salmon in just three hours! That's two each! One was 34 lbs. I was number two at 32 lbs. Second day, we traveled out to sea for 20 miles. We caught seven halibut, eight Ling Cod, and two Spring Salmon. All Hali were about 20-30 lbs., Stink Cod were 25-30 lbs., and Salmon were high teeners. We brought back over 100 lbs of wild fish for a 4th of July BBQ! What a blast! Just thought I would share a great experience with my friends at SF! I was representing with my favorite Steelers hat, and long sleeve dri-fit gear! It was cold & raining, but who cares! ![]() I have a great photo with one of my catches, but do not yet have the necessary 50 posts to attach the photo. Can I get some assistance? Thanks!

Damn, I'm jealous - I used to go halibut fishing all the time out of Seward, Alaska when I still lived in Anchorage. Since moving to Colorado 12 years ago, I have gone fishing once - the fishing up there spoiled me. Sounds like you had a great time and you definitely got a nice haul of fish there.
PS - I will PM you with my Email addy and you can Email the photo to me and I will post it back here. |

Thats awsome, I forget what it's like to catch fish like that. Sounds like Canada is worth the trip.

![]() I must say that I'm seriously considering Alaska for next years' trip! Now Alaska is the real place to fish! Have never been there, but I've seen many photo's.

One of these days, I'm gonna go back up and get one of these:
![]() The largest halibut I've ever caught to date was 120 lbs, but that was a lightweight compared to this guy's 280-pounder. |

Now that's the "Barn Door" that I'd love to catch!!! 120 lbs. sounds good to me! Any difference in flavor or texture of the fillet?

A lot of folks seem to think that the filets of the bigger halibut aren't as flavorful as the smaller ones, but I've had filets from smaller halibut as well as "barn doors" and I honestly couldn't tell a difference. Of course, halibut is also my favorite fish, so I'm not real picky.
