of course this is always a good discussion topic. in this journalistic gem, pete prisco examines 45 players with 6 years or more in the league who could be on their way to the hall of fame. and with quips like this you just know it will be good:

Enjoy the list. And, as usual, I'm prepared for those nasty replies that will tell me a lot of things. Like how many of you think my father runs CBS, which is why I have a job. Or that I have no chance to ever make it into the writer's wing of the Hall.

He's a Hall of Fame run blocker, but he hasn't been great in pass protection. He's just a notch below Hall material

IS LADAINIAN TOMLINSON ALREADY CONFIRMED FOR THE HALL OF FAME?
The football fans at the water cooler may be having discussions this time of year about who belongs in the Hall of Fame. Yesterday I was asked if LaDainian Tomlinson is already a Hall of Fame player. I had to stop and think for a minute, and I said he probably is when you compare his six-year production to Gale Sayers' production over his seven years.

L.T. has averaged 341 rushing plays and 66 receptions a season during his career. He has rushed for 9,176 yards and has scored 111 touchdowns. Tomlinson averages 18 touchdowns a season.

The great Gale Sayers only touched the ball 159 times a season as a runner and receiver and averaged just 900 total yards a season and seven touchdowns. Granted, his last two years were injury-riddled and he only played four games in those two years, but his 68 game totals were 4,956 rushing yards, 1,307 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns. His game average was 73 yards rushing, 19 yards receiving and 4.2 points per game. Tomlinson's game average is 96.5 yards rushing, 14 yards receiving, 7 points -- plus he's thrown six touchdowns. Yes, L.T. is a Hall of Fame back.

if joe horn, keenan mccardell, rod smith and chad johnson are conversation worthy, you would think hines would be too. i have no idea why t. bruschi is being discussed nor the numerous offensive linemen. steve mcnair????

The problem with Prisco is that his articles aren't just controversial - they are deliberately obtuse and go against general wisdom.

Of course LT is a lock - and by leaving him out it just guarentees him more mail and CBS Sportline more online 'views' - which is apprently the bottom line for most sports writers these days.

Pete Crisco still thinks the Sea Hags won the SB and that Mike Holmgren looks good in a speedo. I'd be more interested in hearing what Jessica Simpson has to say. Change that, watching what she has to say.
