Default Where Are They Now?

for anyone not following these articles i highly recommend them. you come across some great nuggets like this from even the most obscure players:

(matt barr- http://news.steelers.com/article/76941/ )

Quote:
What did you like most about playing for the Steelers?

I think it was the Rooney family. Art Rooney, Sr. set the tempo. An example, he met a good childhood friend of mine. My friend mentioned his girlfriend to Mr. Rooney. Now he only met my friend once and he mentioned his girlfriend once. A year later he sees his friend without me and asks about the girl by name. He sent my dad a box of cigars each Christmas because he knew my dad liked cigars. He continued to send him cigars while I was with the Browns. That belies the bigger picture and that is what he always looked at the bigger picture. His son carries that on as well.
or this from calvin sweeney: (http://news.steelers.com/article/76934/)

What is the fondest memory from your playing career?

My rookie year the team was leaving for a preseason game. I had surgery on my foot and Terry Bradshaw asked me what are you going to do this weekend? I told him I would stay around St. Vincent. He knew my girlfriend was in Arlington, Virginia visiting her parents. He told me to take his car and go see her. I didn't know anything about Arlington and he told me it was just a few hours down the road. He just got a new Lincoln Continental. He gave me the keys and I went to see my girlfriend. That was my first impression. That blew me away. He was such a good guy. Everyone on the team were great guys.
and many others. check it out! seriously, how can one not smile when they envision the cheif sending a box of cigars to the father of the freaking punter, every year for christmas? or superstar, mvp terry bradshaw tossing the keys of his car to a rookie?

and how priceless is it that we have this stuff to read about in the offseason as opposed to players getting arrested?

2 weeks til camp!!!

Every morning I wake up and thank my great grandfather's ghost for settling in Pittsburgh instead of further down the Ohio....

I stumbled across these as well and they have been a great insight into some of the personal qualities of these individuals.

Great reminder of why we enjoy supporting this franchise so much.

Those are great stories. I've been checking those out and I agree it's a great insight into the team. And based on what I've seen so far from Coach Tomlin, I think those traditions are in good hands.

When your biggest offseason faux pas are an offensive line coach who likes his porn and a practice squad linebacker who is a pimp, things are alright with me...

And he's probably the only person in the NFL who likes his porn.
