He is still under contract for two or three more years and while the injury was immense... I just have a feeling about him not only getting a roster spot but playing well... Too many times people have counted Priest out in his career... If Holmes wants to come back bad enough, I think he could excel. The biggest part of the injury that scared me was his mental stability, being afraid to take a hit... But from his past, I think his mental game is even better than his physical.

That was intentional.
I saw the opportunity and took it.

I thought he would retire. But hey, great to hear he'll try to play again.

I was never much of a Holmes fan. But, I will say I hope he makes it. We have to remember even though he is 34, ge didn't play alot early in his career. He may have more tread left than people think?

A lot of people I've talked to about this are thinking that the leverage the Chiefs have is that Holmes is a threat to L.J. because he can compete with him for a starter role and, if necessary, allows the Chiefs to cut Johnson loose if he doesn't fly right.

Not so.

All this does is create some insurance for the Chiefs if this mess goes on for a while. They'll have him around so they can keep things realistic if they are going to seriously entertain an extension.

L.J. has it all wrong. He wanted some insurance so he doesn't have to carry the ball almost 500 times this year and Holmes gives him that.

Instead he's going to keep taking $14,000 fines all day sitting at home.

The Chiefs have said that they aren't even close to meeting on this one. To be honest I don't think Johnson is as vital to that team as everyone thinks.

If they give him some bananas contract that tips the scale for RBs for the next 3 years then they are going to find themselves totally hung by the salary cap.

YOU DO NOT BUILD YOUR TEAM AROUND GUYS WITH QUESTIONABLE CHARACTER.

Don't wanna take my word for it, Kansas City F.O.? Get Arthur Blank on the phone...

Comparing the two is absurd, but the basic idea remains the same.

If the Chiefs reward Johnson for a premature holdout then they are going to find that the oldest 27 year old in football (physically) is going to lead them to a decade of mediocrity.

What should the Chiefs do?

Nip it in the bud.

Let him walk.

The Chiefs, offensively, are an old team. Their Oline are dropping like pinecones every year to retirement. Kennison is 34. Holmes is 34. Huard is 34. Gonzalez is 31.

Taking Croyle, Parker, Bowe and starting over is the only really smart bet. KC wants a championship now, though, and they are going to find that the harder they push now the longer its gonna take.

EDIT: Trading L.J. for young talent adds to the reasons to start over... Dump what could become a huge salary and get some more offensive guys who you can develop.
