Default Could Revis Be a Steeler after all?

Sorry to make the title of this thread so deceiving. Thought I would post up an interesting "perhaps" that I read on Florio's site. I don't think, and he doubts, that this will happen, but being that he's a former Panther and a lot of people wanted him in the first round...

Quote:
COULD REVIS RE-ENTER THE DRAFT?

A league source tells us that the primary snag in the talks between the Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis, the No. 14 overall pick in the draft, is that the Jets are insisting on Revis signing a six-year deal, but that Revis wants a five-year contract.

With so many players taken in the top 16 signing deals of five years in duration instead of the CBA maximum of six seasons, the refusal of the Jets to do a five-year deal could cause this to become one of the lengthier holdouts of the bunch. And there are indications that, unless the Jets yield on this point, Revis might sit out the entire season and re-enter the draft.

Keep this in mind -- the uncle of Revis, Sean Gilbert, once sat out an entire season in a dispute with the Redskins. And thereafter Gilbert got paid a bunch of money.

Will it happen with Revis? At this point, it's way too early to tell. But, unlike every other rookie or holdout, he's a least got someone in the family who played the patience game, and eventually won it. So if the Jets won't drop the demand for a six-year deal and unless the six-year deal compensates Revis fully and fairly for the extra year of free agency that he'll be sacrificing, Revis could end up re-entering the draft in 2008.

If by some long shot he DID re-enter in '08. Would he still be a favorite for the Steelers?

What round would you want to draft him?

Would you still want him considering he denied his first drafters?

Is the temptation of getting a guy you really wanted the year before, even though he's another year older, be too much?

No. If he isn't willing to negotiate for that 6th year with another team, what is to say that he is going to not do it again this year with the current team that gets him? Maybe it isn't years.. .maybe it is signing bonus.

Seriously, you never heard of him, well in a summarized way he was a great cornerback at the university of pittsburgh, that's why some may want him on the team because he was in pittsburgh and was a good player there

Not only was he a good DB, he was one hell of a returner. Case in point....

BTW, I would be more than happy to have him on our roster. It beats watching Colclough fumble.

I like Revis a lot......I think he is a really good corner...Not shut down material....NFL rules really prevent corners from being shut down anymore...Plus like 83 said the guy is one hell of a return man......

I like Revis but I wouldnt take him next year unless he is the best corner in the draft and our DB's are horrible again. Next year in the first round I see us going after a middle LB to replace Farrior and add depth to the position. Maybe Revis will fall to the second round and we can snag him there.

I would take Revis next year only if James Laurinaitis isnt on the board when we pick......other than that, I'd gladly welcome him!

If Lauranitis is on the board,we gotta take him next year.

I already have my Ohio State Lauranitis jersey...it'll be the first Steelers jersey of the 2008 season I buy if we draft him.
