Default Steelers are a little hefty

The Steelers may have problems with performence on the field, but they sure can perform at meal time.

TRIBUNE-REVIEW

If you think yinz is fat, check out the Steelers' locker room.

While the NFL prides itself on fit and trim athletes, all but three of the 53 Pittsburgh players are clinically overweight, according to widely accepted federal health guidelines.

The plumpest pigskin players are offensive guard Keydrick Vincent, center Chukky Okobi and defensive tackle Casey Hampton. Their body mass index, a gauge of total fat, starts at nearly 41 -- about twice that of a person in the "normal" range.

Star running back Jerome Bettis might have run his way into the Hall of Fame, but at 5'11" and 255, he ate a path to a hefty 35.6 BMI. Rookie Ben Roethlisberger got his nickname honestly; with a BMI of 28.5, Big Ben is a little, well, big. In fact, every offensive and defensive lineman on the team isn't merely husky; they're clinically obese.

I`m sure all the teams are about the same.

My doctors office has a chart. And for someone my height 6', I should weigh around 172 lbs. Come on I would be anorexic. I believe that I am in pretty good shape physically. I lift weights 4 to 5 days a week. I do cardio at least three days a week. I eat very clean. Protein 50% Carb 30% and Heathy Fats 20%. I also drink roughly 2.5 gal, of water daily. And I weigh around 210. These charts are ridiculous. These athletes are in great shape. With maybe an exception for the BUS.

As long as these huge linemen lose weight after they stop playing it isn't going to hurt them. I'm 6'1" and weigh 237, and I have a 36" waist. Some people can carry it and some can't.

There have been cases and stories about how NFL lineman have had health issues after football because of their size..but these guys are monitored so closely by the team doctors and trainers that they are in good hands while they play for the most part.

My guess on the three...Ike Taylor, Nate Washington, and Gardocki.

Maybe you should have posted the whole article, such as this piece for example.......

""Take any lineman. He's obese. People don't know about that, but they're fat," Jones said. "It starts at the high school level. They bulk up. By the time they get to the NFL, they're huge. But if they started losing weight, they'd get pushed over like a twig, and then they'll come in hurt."

Also, Vincent plays for the ratbirds, not the Steelers.
