Steelers' Timmons gets good news about injury
Thursday, August 09, 2007

By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Lawrence Timmons, the Steelers' No. 1 draft pick, had an injection to reduce the inflammation in his groin and received good news about his injury after getting a second opinion from Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia.

Timmons, a rookie outside linebacker, is experiencing discomfort and swelling in his groin area, but does not have any type of tendon tear or injury that could require surgery. He received an injection from Meyers, a groin and abdominal specialist, and was expected to rejoin the team this morning.

It is not known when Timmons will resume practice, but the injection was designed to expedite the process in an attempt to get him back on the field as soon as possible. Timmons has not practiced for two weeks after aggravating the groin injury that caused him to miss nearly all of the offseason workouts.

Coach Mike Tomlin is expected to update Timmons' condition at a news conference this morning at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe.

It's the mascot's fault Timmon's hurt his groin. It's also the mascot's fault that Washington is dropping balls, Porter is no longer a Steeler and Faneca being unhappy. It's all the mascot's fault!!!

As for Timmons, while I'm not thrilled about his injury situation, comparing him to Alonzo Jackson or Kendrell Bell is a just a tad bit premature IMO. I think I might wait...oh I don't know.....until he plays a full season of pro-ball before I start making comparison's.

On that note, it's good to hear all went well with the doctor in Philly. It's better than hearing that he tore his groin and will be out for the next eight weeks.

i agree, the alonzo reference was more directed at past fsu defensive ends/linebackers that we got ,my bad. kendrell played good when he wasn't injured. i agree, i wanna see him play, at least practice 1st. i remember being at training camp when alonzo was there. cowher yelled alonzo all day long. it wasn't for his excellent work either.

You and me both. When the kid actually plays his first year in the NFL and if the injuries continue, then I will start calling him Alonzo Bell. Until then, I'm giving the kid a shot and time to prove himself.

IMO, just because the kid is from Florida State (where some fine, healthy ball players have sprouted from) and because he has a groin injury in his first year of pro-ball, I'm not ready to write him off just yet. Hell, if it were up to some we would have cut this kid already. Thankfully they do not run the F.O.

Understand, by no means am I comfortable with this injury. The kid is losing valuable learning time and it is setting him back.

The groin injury is a tough injury to heal and come back from. Hopefully what they find in this 2nd opinion will help with the healing and rehab process. I think Steeler fans are eager to see what this guy can do once he is healthy and on the field.

Thank you, Thank you, Thankyou...

Oh, did I say thankyou!! A full season AT LEAST...

the only caveat... is if he can't play a full season over the next two or three years because he KEEPS getting injured.... but that is such a stretch at this point that there is no reason considering it.

Here's my question of the day.......

When does a doctor, such as Dr. William Meyers of Filthadelphia, decide that he would like to not only be a doctor, but to specialize in the male groin? After PE class?

I bet that's exactly when he got a handle on what he would do for a living!
