I feel like Sean Salisbury... Without the jackass demeanor, that is.

I am truly hoping. Fact. One of my deepest hopes for the Steelers this season is that the defense is somewhere around 16 PPG, which if going by last year's trends, would put them in the top 5. I am not concerned about the RY/G as we have always excelled in that category. The addition of Lawrence Timmons, hopefully, and The Wood means that we will be able to rotate linebackers to keep them fresh. Our secondary should see a lot of improvement this year with Tomlin at the helm. After all, the guy was a DB coach in the beginning. Ike Taylor WILL return to form and our Smith will develop into a solid player at free safety. If McFadden can pull his game together, our secondary should be very reliable. The utilization of Brett Kiesel as a rover means that quarterbacks will have to audible A LOT at the line of scrimmage, especially if Troy can be unrestricted in his own roving. This confusion is going to cause a lot of headaches for the younger quarterbacks we will be facing: Losman, Frye, Leinart, maybe Quinn, Alex Smith. Lebeau will have these guys clicking and we certainly have the depth to keep fresh legs out there at all time.

Fact or Fiction.......Ben returns to his old self
Fact. If Sunday was any indication of the Ben we are going to see this season, there is no reason he shouldn't put up very good numbers. I don't think he will make the Pro Bowl, with Manning, Brady, Palmer, among others in our conference, but I do feel he will be consistent with a healthy touchdown to pick ratio. Our receiving coe is shaping up nicely with Wilson and Holmes proving they are ready to play. Arians new offense is going to have a lot of teams off balance early in the season since they won't be seeing the normal playbook we have been using for years and years. If we can establish a legitimate running threat out of the 4 WR package, then OLBs are going to have trouble playing our guys in the slot, as well as, minding their responsibilities in the box. Roethlisberger has always had a cannon and excluding last year's debacle, is a pretty consistent QB. This new coaching staff is going to take the handcuffs off and let it rip more often.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Willie Parker will make the Pro Bowl again
Fiction. Willie Parker had an amazing year last year and is gearing up to take more responsibilities. His increased work load was a reflection of the struggles Ben was experiencing last year. He won't have to do as much this year. He wants to be better than L.T. he says, which Arians likes. That doesn't mean the gameplan is going to change. With more and more successful teams moving to the committee style of running and with the depth we are seeing at RB even this early I find it hard to believe that Willie, like Ben, is going to be able to make the Pro Bowl with some of the amazing individual players in this conference. L.T. will probably be a lock. Throw in teams that have one premier runner, Larry Johnson, Willis McGahee, Ronnie Brown, Joseph Addai, among others, it is going to be hard for Willie to find the individual stats in this kind of offense. Arians wants to spread the ball around. That means Willie's stats won't be quite so padded.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Troy Polamalu will lead the AFC North in INT's
Fiction. It is hard to deny the talent of Ed Reed. The Ravens have a very good defense that is going to put a lot of pressure on the Quarterback causing errant throws. I understand the Steelers run a zone blitz scheme, but I see Troy being involved in the box a lot more this year. Let Reed have the INTS. Polamalu will be recording tackles, stripping the ball, the rushing the Quarterback for his comrades to pick up the INTs in the secondary. Other than the '05 season, where he missed almost half the season, Reed has recorded at least five INTS, which is Polamalu's highest single season number.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Santonio Holmes will have 1000 receiving yards
Fact. At this point I would have to believe so. Despite Wilson's performance in Canton, Holmes is still listed on the depth chart as the starter opposite Hines. He recorded 824 yards season, despite coming on late. Comparison's have been drawn to a young Torry Holt, and I feel that is going to continue after this season. Holmes is going to show why the Steelers moved up last year to snag him, especially since early indication suggests that the ball is going to be in the air a lot more this year. With Ward losing a step or two in his age, look for Holmes to be the go to go on those 20 yard routes. This milestone should be easily accomplished.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Hines Ward will have 1000 receiving yards
Fact. As long as he stays healthy. From 2001 to 2004 he reached this milestone and fell short by exactly 25 yards the past two years. He missed a game in 2005 and two last year. Ward remains as our best possession receiver and if he can be a 16 game starter he should reach 1,000 yards. Barely. (Possession receivers generally have lower yardage totals).
Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Ike Taylor plays much better than last season
Fact. I'd like to believe that Taylor was given that contract for a reason and with Tomlin on board, as mentioned before, he should be able to return to his 2005 form. Ike Taylor isn't going to have many interceptions, but in 2005 he was credited with 20 pass defenses and only 12 last year. He needs to remain focused and create this opportunities again. I believe the same points I observed in the first question apply to this, as well. The entire defense is going to be better.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Oline will perform better than last year
Fact. Though this is sort of a skewed comparison. Last year, the offensive line had trouble because of a lot of our run heavy formations. He lost Hartings, true. But Arians new formations are going to take some of the pressure off of these guys. The 4 WR set is going to keep guys out of the box and pit our guys in a lot of one on one matchups. The two TE set is going to see Miller and either Tuman or Speath. Sometimes even Tuman and Spaeth, perhaps. Tuman is a proven run block TE and Spaeth, as I have mentioned before, comes from a run-heavy Minnesota offense. The competition for spots on the starting Offensive Line has kept these guys sharp and one would have to believe that the battle for their jobs will mean that these guys come into the season ready to go, fine tuned, and, essential, MUCH better at pass blocking than a year ago.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Steelers will sweep the Bengals
Fiction. In the two years that the Bengals have been respectable we have finished in a regular season stalemate both times. I look for that trend to continue, as do most others, this year. The Bengals certainly have that high powered offense and I'm sure one of the two times we are going to be trapped in a shootout. Another 1-1 draw in the regular season.

Quote:
Fact or Fiction.......Steelers make the playoffs
Fact. This division is brutal. Probably the most brutal in all of football. This year will likely be a three man foot race to the title. Regardless, I feel the Steelers, at least nab a wild card spot.

Fact or Fiction.......Steelers defense will be a top 5 defense - Patriots, Bears, Ravens, Jaguars and the Steelers sneak in at number 5.
Fact or Fiction.......Ben returns to his old self - If the 3 throws against the Saints can be used as any sort of indication, I say yes. In fact, I'd like to say that he improves. Even when Ben took the Steelers to the Super Bowl he had much to work on in his game. It seems like he's past his distractions now, and has taken a serious approach. Things are looking good.
Fact or Fiction.......Willie Parker will make the Pro Bowl again - Willie got the skillies. That was terrible.
Fact or Fiction.......Troy Polamalu will lead the AFC North in INT's - He's too active all over the field to be a leader in the int category. If this said Troy is the most valuable defensive player in the AFC North, I'd be more apt to say Fact.
Fact or Fiction.......Santonio Holmes will have 1000 recieving yards - I'm hoping I'm wrong, I love Santonio, but with the spread offense, I really can't make a call on this yet, especially after one preaseason game that showcased great performances from Ced (who would've thunk it?) and Holmes. Still need to see more from these two and Miller, Washington, and Spaeth.
Fact or Fiction.......Hines Ward will have 1000 recieving yards - see above.
Fact or Fiction.......Ike Taylor plays much better than last season - for sure, he wasn't even as bad as most people think last year if you take another look at his game film.
Fact or Fiction.......Oline will perform better than last year - Yes.
Fact or Fiction.......Steelers will sweep the Bengals - Nope. The Steelers will sweep the other Ohio team though.
Fact or Fiction.......Steelers make the playoffs - I've got a strong feeling about this and I'll just put it in writing now - AFC North title - 11-5 record.
