The greatest news coming out of that game, we got out of it with one minor injury. That's about it.

The Bad:

The O-line: Marvel Smith struggled last night (torched by Jenkins to cause the fumble) and Max Starks looked even worse and is going to get Ben Roethlisberger killed before all is said and done. IMO, I feel it's time for Tomlin to set his o-line unit and keep it set for the rest of the preseason. That line up should be in my opinion....

Right Tackle: Colon
Right Guard: Simmons
Center: Mahan
Left Guard: Faneca
Left Tackle: Smith

Special Teams (surprise!): This wouldn't be such a big deal if Tomlin wasn't stressing our ST's play in camp. Between the blocked kick and the return unit, it's not looking good. Although our kick return defense and Sepulveda looked solid.

The Good:

Gary Russell: Barlow is slowly leaving the building. Russell may have struggled with his academics while in Minnesota, but he has looked good in camp and during the Packers game. Watching Davis and Russell battle it out has been fun. The next three games should be interesting when it comes to those two.

Charlie Batch: I felt Charlie played good (throw to Holmes was nice). It's comforting to know (after last season) that we have a very solid back up QB on this roster. Maybe it was just me, but I felt BSP played pretty good for being our #3. It's not as if we are asking him to start. I thought he controlled the offense pretty well, stood up to the pressure and showed some nice feet considering he was playing behind the third string line. At this point, judging that he didn't touch the field last night, I think it's safe to say they are keeping Randall around in order to have a warm arm in camp.

Our secondary: William Gay continues to push Colclough out of the Steelers future plans. First McFadden and I feel (eventually), William Gay will pass Colclough, who has yet to show me anything special over the last four years. I believe Gay had a sack and about 6 tackles last night. I'm not sure how much more you can ask from a first year rookie taken in the fifth round. He's definately making a name for himself over these last two preseason games. Overall, I felt we blanketed the Packer WR's pretty well. Particulary in the first half.

Our WR's: Walter Young and Santonio Holmes have looked good over the last two games. I feel bad for Young. He's producing (while Nate is dropping), but the guy can't make the practice squad if he's cut, so if he doesn't make the team this year he is gone. In reality, he has looked a helluva lot better than Nate up to this point in the preseason.

I'm sure I missed some aspects both in the good and the bad columns, but the above stood out to me the most last night.

On a side note. Hats off to Packer fans. They travel well and with class. It was a joy to be around them and have a few beers with a couple of them last night. It was a refreshing and welcoming experience.

im watching this game for the 1st time on replay.

reed kicks to the endzone
davis makes a tackle behind the 20
foote has blanket coverage and knocks down a pass
troy gets pressure on farve
tomlin gives troy a pound on the fist for the 3 and out
ried catches the punt on the run
GB penalized

the thing i notice most going into the defensive series after the stupid sack and fumble is how active troy is.

if this is "vanilla" defense, the real deal with the 1st teamers should be great.
