Tomlins 1st dig on Cowher?

They had a handful of movie choices, including "The Bourne Ultimatum," "Rush Hour 3" and "The Simpsons Movie."

Tomlin did not attend.

"I have too much work to do. I don't have time to go to the movies. I guess going to the movies is tradition around here. I'm not too much into tradition," he said

appearantly "movie day" was such a big hit with the old regime, that when presented with the option of not going, alot of players just stayed at the dorm and slept.

I guess it can be interpreted as a dig, but I don't see it that way. By allowing the players to go to the movies as in the past, I don't see how that is "breaking tradition" at all.

What I really liked in that article was keisel on how many yards Willie would get on that defense...

First, he is nice. Sure, Probowl RB, nice to have him on the team, hundred yard rusher...

But Keisel, REALLY, how many yards? Well.. 15, on 15 tries!

That's the swagger I want to see from my defense!

I see it more as, it's Tomlin's regime now, he can do as he pleases. Just because Cowher did it in the past, it doesn't mean Tomlin has to follow. He's his own man and can make his own decisions.

Although he may not be into tradition, about the only organization that is more into tradition than the team for which Tomlin is now working may be the Roman Catholic Church.

I agree Tomlin needs to be his own guy, but tradition is a big part of what separates the Steelers from such franchises as the Falcons and Cardinals.

FWIW I do not see Tomlin's comment as a shot at Cowher.

Its seems to me this is an illustration of a clear difference in philosophy bwtween the coaches. Cowher used surprise "movie day" as a way to let everyone blow off steam and have fun in a joint activity---like taking students on a field trip.

Tomlin seems to treat his players like adults---or to use the phrase he likes "men". (While Cowher treated players like "the guys"---there is a difference) With Tomlin, the men can make their own choice as to what they want to do with free time.

Both coaching styles are effective in their own way. But in this case, once everyone gets complacent with the first style its good to shakes things up with the opposite.

I do not think it was an intentional dig at Cowher at all---perhaps at the players who were asking for movie day---but not at Cowher.

I'm still trying to figure out what Tomlin (or replace Tomlin with anybody in the Steeler org. counting McBeam) said that could possibly be interpreted as a "shot" at Cowher. Maybe that's just me. Oh well...lol.
