Steelers file North Shore traffic concerns
Steelers, Pirates file North Shore traffic concerns
By The Tribune-Review
Saturday, August 18, 2007
The Steelers and Pirates filed briefs with the state Supreme Court on Friday as part of their appeal to keep PITG Gaming from building the Majestic Star Casino on the North Shore without first addressing traffic issues.
The briefs, filed just before the 4 p.m. deadline, warned of "traffic chaos" on game days, when sports fans would flood the North Shore along with the estimated 10 million people a year who are expected to visit the casino, slated for completion some time next year.
The additional traffic could create waits of up to 2.5 hours for Steelers games and 1.5 hours for Pirates games, according to the briefs.
The teams complained that the city Planning Commission didn't let them present as much evidence as PITG was allowed and denied them due process. PITG Gaming and city planners have until Sept. 6 to file responses.
