Thumbs down OL had a rough day

We pride ourselves on having one of the best OL's in football, and normally we prove it every week, but this week Ben had no time to throw, willie had no running room and it was just a rough day.

Win or Lose, it always all starts w/ the OL.

Thoughts ?

I wasn't very impressed with the O-line this game. Ben seemed very rushed a lot. No time back there to throw. It didn't seem like they were giving Willie much room either.

it seem like they came out thinkin the panters oline got it done easy, we can do the same. poor willie just couldn't do anything cause they weren't being aggresive. hopefully in two weeks we come back and just destroy the chargers to establish that we are still one of the teams to beat cause i know for the next two weeks the media is going to be talkin down on us

Yeah i was reading the post game quotes from the Steelers, and basically Faneca and Marvel Smith just said they really didnt show them anything they hadnt seen already, for some reason they just couldnt get the push they usually do today.

if anyone one or any one unit lost the game for the steelers it was the o-line. EL did his stupid thing, the difense didnt get enough pressure on Brady, and the kickoff coverage team was horrible, but it seemed like Ben never had a chance to drop back and look at the field. When the patriots wanted to rush, they did. Kinda reminded me of the Texans.

The OL was pretty pathetic, but they Wisenhunt, Grimm or Cowher could of help them out. In the process help Ben out by just rolling the pocket getting Ben on the edges. They could of ran a couple of screen passes, NE pass rushers were being so aggressive. I'm your typical armchair QB, but the coaching I seen today made me feel like I could coach. IMO

Apart from the last quarter both O-Lines took a bit of a hammering - the aggresive blitzing of the Steelers had Brady on his ass more than once in the first half.

The main differences as I see them are -

1. Steelers got beaten on time of possesion - combine an aggressive D with a D that has spent almost 60% of the time on the field and you have problems regarding D stamina.

2. In game adjustments - The Pats look there for the taking with two rookies on the left side of the O-Line when Matt Light went off injured - but the Pats worked some new protection schemes, including some 3-TE sets to give Brady time to throw.

3. Playcalling - Cowher ,in some respects, is just as bad as Mike Martz for making stubborn playcalls - Martz is determined to win through the air come what may - even if his team has a HOF running back and is dominating.
Cowher on the other hand is determined to grind out runs on 1st and 2nd down nearly EVERY series - sure this might be Steelers football - but in some games it is going to be losing football.
Pretty much everytime Ben went back to pass in the 2nd half it was a pass-only situation - its much easier to generate a pass-rush when there is no threat of the run.

Cheers

Suddenly, the Patriots are not simply great; they're compelling, fascinating, appearing to be almighty and a touch lawless.
The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.
