Default Pre Season Stats Worth Mentionning

the wins dont matter, and weve seen and discussed the bad and the ugly. now for the good:

240 offensive plays- 120 rushes, 121 pass = balance

d. sepulveda is 3rd in net average punting 41.6 (amongst those with more than 5 punts). strangely enough m. barr is 1st with a 43.8 average of his 6 punts = greatly improved punt coverage.

defense has allowed 13 points total in the 1st half of the 4 exhibition games. 10 in the 1st quarter, 3 in the 2nd. = our starters and 2nd teamers are on pace to give up only 104 points for the season. move over baltimore.

the most points scored against us was 13 (phil, gb).

b. keisel said the defense they ran against philadelphia was still pretty vanilla.

ben is 3rd in the league in passing yards. although he has played 4 games he is 12th in the number of attempts amongst the top 15 yardage leaders.

in the critical 3rd week of preseason where we saw offensive explosions from p. rivers, p. manning, t. brady, in a little over a half of work, ben had the 2nd highest passing total with 247 yds and won the game!

ben has a gargantuan 10.0 yards per attempt. league leader amongst projected starters, and #4 overall.
ben-10.0
gerrard- 10.2
batch- 12.6
k. warner- 13.3 (#1 over all)
mcnabb- 9.9

amongst the top 50 passers so far c. batch is 3rd with a 78.3 completion % (18/23)
k. warner 83.3% (15/18)
drew brees 80.0% (36/45) (thats sick)
p. manning 77.5% (31/40)

the steelers 1st teamers made brees, favre, and mcnabb, look fairly pedestrian and we only got a small taste of what j. campbell can do.

when willie parker fumbled at the goal line it wasnt carelessness, lack of focus or fundamentals. it was just a case of "balls of steel" as he tried to bowl over 3 linebackers with no other steeler in sight. (not even alan "the matador" faneca). with limited action willie looks, bigger, stronger, and just as fast and shifty, with no trepidation whatsoever. imagine dumping d. staley and k. barlow and still being better equipped with a stable of backs who can help relieve the burden and keep willie fresh.

Disclaimer- i know pre season stats dont mean nuthin. there are plenty of threads focusing on the bad and the ugly. dont mean we cant shift our focus to the good things going on.

c. batch's passer rating of 133.2 is 2nd only to k. warners 137.3. k. wisenhunt connection with back up qb's or just coincidence?

ben has half as many interceptions as tom brady and only jt o'sullivan and tyler palko have more.

Why the fumble by Parker happened is of no consequence. The fact is...it's ANOTHER fumble inside the 10. Those kinds of fumbles cost the Steelers last year and isnt is great the Parker is right back on track where he left off?

I hope Tomlin has the nads to bench him if he does it again.

I gotta agree.

I wonder if he thinks we need a "Smashmouth-back". You know, Another Bettis.

Relax - it was a preseason game.

I'll join you in that cup of java, Tony.
