The Bears remind me a lot of the pre-Heinz field Steelers. They are just a QB away from recognizing their potential. Griese isn't the answer, of course.

The Bears are the 90's Steelers. They have a coach that thinks a stop-gap inconsistent QB is just enough to take your team over the top when he clearly is a HUGE detriment. Funny until Cowher finally considered the QB position(drafted Ben in 2004), he finally won the Super Bowl.

Rex Grossman and Brian Griese= Kordell Stewart and Mike Tomczak.

It's not too late, Lovie. Do something before it's too late.

Griese is a HUGE upgrade over Grossman. IMO, it's unfair to compare Griese to Tomczak, because Griese is a lot better than Tomczak ever was as well. Being in Broncos country, I remember Griese playing very well, but still getting booed out of town as he was unfortunate enough to be the first QB Denver had post-Elway. He also played very well for the Bucs in a backup role in 2005, going 5-1 for them before tearing his ACL. True, Griese is far from being a franchise QB, but he's also just as far from being the complete scrub that Grossman is.

There is the potential of the Bears going after McNabb. Rumors are flying that the Eagles want to go a different direction at QB (aka John Kolb). The Bears obviously need a new QB, and McNabb is a significant upgrade over Bad Rex.

However, they would be inviting a large contract, giving up some draft picks and/or players, and the potential for season-ending injury. The last time he played an entire season? The season the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.

I think their best bet is to draft a QB in the first round and cut Grossman after this season. Let the rookie they draft sit behind Greise for a season and learn how to manage a football game at this level and then let him loose in year two (or year one of Greise gets hurt).

I agree, Grossman is a bum. They need to draft a QB and get rid of Grossman.

Damn, I was way off on this - didn't see the game, but from what I heard, Griese looked pretty much just like Grossman out there.

Griese is an upgrade because the Bears just need a QB who won't lose games for them like Trainrex does.

I don't see them ponying up Philly's asking price for McNabb, though--why trade draft picks for a 30-year-old player who had season ending injuries 3 of the last 5 years? You want Day One picks to be long term contributors.
