The Bears remind me a lot of the pre-Heinz field Steelers. They are just a QB away from recognizing their potential. Griese isn't the answer, of course.

The Bears are the 90's Steelers. They have a coach that thinks a stop-gap inconsistent QB is just enough to take your team over the top when he clearly is a HUGE detriment. Funny until Cowher finally considered the QB position(drafted Ben in 2004), he finally won the Super Bowl.
Rex Grossman and Brian Griese= Kordell Stewart and Mike Tomczak. It's not too late, Lovie. Do something before it's too late. |

There is the potential of the Bears going after McNabb. Rumors are flying that the Eagles want to go a different direction at QB (aka John Kolb). The Bears obviously need a new QB, and McNabb is a significant upgrade over Bad Rex.
However, they would be inviting a large contract, giving up some draft picks and/or players, and the potential for season-ending injury. The last time he played an entire season? The season the Eagles went to the Super Bowl. I think their best bet is to draft a QB in the first round and cut Grossman after this season. Let the rookie they draft sit behind Greise for a season and learn how to manage a football game at this level and then let him loose in year two (or year one of Greise gets hurt).

I agree, Grossman is a bum. They need to draft a QB and get rid of Grossman.

Griese is an upgrade because the Bears just need a QB who won't lose games for them like Trainrex does.
I don't see them ponying up Philly's asking price for McNabb, though--why trade draft picks for a 30-year-old player who had season ending injuries 3 of the last 5 years? You want Day One picks to be long term contributors. |
