Default Cardinals vs. Ravens replay

so im watching the game and see yamon figures run back a td on the cardinals. they show whisenhunts comments on it after the game where he calmly says, "we cant let that happen" (sound familiar?)

while trying to mount a comeback fitzgerald fumbles a ball close to the redzone that wouldve been ran back to the other 20 if baltimores cb wasnt ruled down by contact. (lemme guess... we cant let that happen?)

and then when they finally start to mount a comeback and boldin scores his 1st td he gets a 15 yard taunting penalty. (we cant let that happen? )

not to mention the missed fg at the half, or the late (pretty bogus) call on wilson hitting heap, that put the ravens in range for the winning fg.

so with whiz as our coach we would simply get "we cant let that happen" as opposed to "we will address it this week and make it go away".

im glad we got tomlin and have to give the rookie coaching edge to him. hes got his players heads on straight for the next game.

Good observations, clearly Tomlin is better prepared. Wiz can be a good head coach, but as of now Tomlin's looking better.

i like it tony. it doesn't matter so much to me what they say, the fact is that tomlin has been delivering, not just blowing wind. so far he seems to talk the loudest by his players performances.

i have a feeling we will come away from this weekend saying that we absolutely hired the right man. the cardinals have their problems, and you can't blame them on wiz, but i think we have a superior coach, with a superior front office, and superior players, and when you add that up, what do you get?

as long as our boys don' t play flat, it should be a solid win. got my fingers crossed. a loss here could hurt coach tomlins credibilty.

If they lose to Arizona at home I do not think it hurts Tomlin's credibillity. No other coaching staff knows the Steelers personnel as well as the Cards and it is the Cardinals Super Bowl.

I look for a close game and am nervous about: run blocking with both Hines and Mahan injured; and Tomlin needing to repeatedly remind Ben he needs to play within teh game plan and does not need to throw for 650 yards + 9 TDs to prove how much better life is without Whiz

Good point ATL-Dan - the second one about Ben hopefully not trying to do too much. That in itself can loose us this game.

Do you think Tomlin will put more of the offense on Bens shoulders before the tough games appear on the schedule?

At this point there really isn't a need to deviate away from the old Cowher game plan but maybe (if they haven't already) they could let him work out of the shotgun, no huddle early in a game to see how he handles it.

It could also be an opportunity to unveil the arians super spread formations that dominated the offseason talk.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

Good question - I think they might have done it against the Bills but then Ben forced that terrible interception on the deep throw in the first half and they grinded after that

Hate to keep pounding the point but this is not the opponent to give Ben the car keys - after Tomlin told him to shut up & Ben then immediately told the Arizona paper he knows how Leinart feels indicates to me Ben has an "I'll show you Whiz" attitude that could cause him to force everything.

My bet is the Seattle home game and the Bengals road game in October (not going to mess with Denver's CBs on the road) are when the handcuffs come off.

i think this "spread formation" is being a bit overhyped and scrutinized by litp based on just a couple of offseason articles that stemmed from 1 offseason interview with arians.

i do think with ward and spaeth out, it would be a good time to use 3wr, 1 te, and parker as our base formation, though. theres alot we can do out of that base package, and it would set quite a tone if we could establish either a passing game or running game considering the 2 players who will be missing.

Cheers, Dan.

Definitely Denver is a tough team to pass the ball against and wouldn't be the best time to air it out - Denver is also hugely suspect against the run this year - if FWP played them this week he could be good for 200 yards.

You have to credit Whisenhunt with being able to recognise the same thing you have - that Ben might be playing a little emotional/reckless this weekend - would he perhaps try to sell out on the LOS and stop the run?

Either way, i think the Cards are over matched - unless Boldin(if fit) and Larry Fitz take the Steeler seconday apart, and I don't see that happening - put it this way - Larry Fitz is on my FF bench this week.

At some point the Steelers need to cut Parker back to around 20 carries per game - with Ward out I doubt it will be this week but I look (hope?) for someone other than Willie running left to be a larger part of the offense starting in October.
