Ward, Spaeth miss another practice
Steelers' Ward, Spaeth miss another practice
By Scott Brown
Thursday, September 27, 2007
Wide receiver Hines Ward and tight end Matt Spaeth didn't practice again Thursday, and their status for Sunday is still in question. Coach Mike Tomlin said earlier this week that if Spaeth, who has caught a team-high two touchdown passes, misses significant practice time this week, then the rookie won't play against the Arizona Cardinals.
"Matt scares you when he doesn't get the reps," offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Thursday of Spaeth, who didn't play Sunday because of a deep thigh bruise. "It would be hard for him to play if he doesn't practice (today)."
It sounds like Ward, who was listed as doubtful with a knee sprain earlier this week, will be a game-time decision.
"If he tells me Sunday morning, 'I can go,' he can go, because he'll know the game plan," Arians said.
Center Sean Mahan, who sprained his knee in the Steelers' 37-16 win over the 49ers, returned to practice yesterday.
? Cornerback Ricardo Colclough (back) and offensive tackle Trai Essex (knee) didn't practice.
? Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (hip) missed practice for the second straight day. Tackle Levi Brown (ankle) was limited in practice, while center Al Johnson (knee) returned to practice.
? Allen Rossum made history when he returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against the 49ers. Rossum is now the only player in NFL history to return a kickoff for a touchdown with four teams. The other teams he accomplished the feat for were Atlanta, Green Bay and Philadelphia.
0 - Interceptions the Cardinals have made this season.
1 - Interceptions Ben Roethlisberger has thrown this season.
