Romo not being pressured to sign a new contract before the season started apparently paid off

The Dallas Cowboys have reached an agreement with quarterback Tony Romo on a six-year, $67.5 million contract extension, $30 million which is guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Ed Werder and ESPN.com's Matt Mosley.

The deal is expected to be announced at an 11 a.m. ET press conference on Tuesday. Romo's deal surpasses the six-year, $65 million contract ($27 million guaranteed) that St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger signed at the start of training camp. Romo and Bulger have the same agents, Ken Kremer and Tom Condon.

I watch these negotiations because they set the benchmark for what Leigh Steinberg will be seeking for Ben. Around 6 years $70 million looks about right to me.

You think he'll be getting more than bulger and romo? Well, the rooney's must have the money so it's not the time to be cheap, Ben's the future.

and about romo, I haven't seen enough of him yet, despite what the media thinks 1 year of experience is not enough, so to me right now his contract looks a little to big

did you see romo took out a $30 mil. insurance policy against injury just about a week ago? if that dont speed up negotiations, i dont know what will.

the biggest off season question may be if d. anderson is m. schaub or t. romo. what a crappy time to have b. quinn play into the decision.

My only question is whether $70 million will cover it if the Steelers somehow got hot in the playoffs this season (I assume the Steelers will do the deal this offseason)

Hell - JaMarcus Russell got $60 million for 6 years with $30 million guaranteed by the Raiders

Ben is playing as well as either Romo or Bulger and so far established 2006 was due to the crash and the appendectomy. It will be hard for the Rooneys to argue Ben should take less and Ben is head strong enough he will walk after 2009 if he does not get market rate

the odds are, ben is not going to finish in the top 5 in stats. i don't know how much of a factor that is during negotiations, but i'm sure thr rooneys will try to use it to thier advantage.i'm sure the thought of a 30 million bonus has dans ass a puckerin.

Yep - Anderson is a restricted FA after this season - Browns will not tie up $$ in Anderson and Quinn - (and let's see how Anderson holds up after back to back road trips to Pittsburgh & Baltimore)

And I think Ben is smart enough to know that the Rooneys will make Ben the highest paid QB in Steelers history, but they won't break the bank and keep them from improving the team in the future to keep him either.

Ben will remain a Steeler. He will be the highest paid Steeler when he gets his new contract.
