Default Someone please Explain to me

http://www.nfl.com/standings

Just looked at the NFL site for Division standings The Browns are 3rd behind the Ratbirds who are 2nd. The Browns beat the Ratbirds 27-13 yet they are rated ahead of them with both team 2-2. How can that be? Is the Browns Karma that bad?

Looks like they just got it round the wrong way - my guess is you have a lazy writer/stat compiler who went for alphabetical order to make it easier.

ESPN has the Browns in second.

The Patriots didn't bother with swagger to start this NFL season; they went straight to defiant. Either you're one of them or you're about to get crushed.

I sent the NFL an email asking them and they have not yet sent an answer back. the rule says we should be in second I thought.

Quote:
Here's the division tie breaker rule from the NFL:

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).

2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.

3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.

4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

5. Strength of victory.

6. Strength of schedule.

So the first tie breaker in division rank is head to head which we own 1-0. I'm not sure why we aren't ranked 2nd. Anyone know?
Thiis copied from Browns 247 from DiryDawg who is pretty much up on the rules.

They definitely have it backwards. I checked thinking maybe it was something to do with conference or divisional wins, but the Browns have the better record in both categories.

they did this a few weeks ago when they had a tied baltimore over cincinatti even though the bengals beat the ravens.

some dont bother with looking up the tiebreaker scenarios (since its not close to the end of the season) and just list the tied teams in alphabetical order.

i was thinking alphabetical order...but Tennessee is ahead of Jax, so there goes that theory -- I guess the NFL just hates the Browns.

Yeah they are just going alphabetic order. I guess they dont start using the tie-breakers untill later in the season

But, F the raisins anyways

I can see why it's so important to the really sucky teams though.
