Personally the Police don't give a $hit either way. It's the tough domestic violence laws that ORDER Police Officers to 1. Identify the "Primary Physical Aggressor" and
2. Arrest and incarcerate the primary physical aggressor.

Now in 99.9% of male versus female physical confrontations, I think that any numb skull is capable of identifying the primary physical aggressor so therefore it's not a case of the police taking the womans side of the story.

Don't hate on the police for taking action. Hate yourself for your actions that invited the police.

Are you saying he can't be released on bail prior to arraignment or he can't post bail until there is a conviction or acquittal?

I wouldn't say the woman involved could be looking for a payout. Well yes I am. The point made earlier that police would have jailed him on the spot if there were physical evidence raises enormous doubt.
