Do you think the weak defense is Crennel's fault him being the genius from the cheating Pats?

The Browns had problems on both sides of the ball when he got there. Their offense and defense were both horrible.
You can truly only fix one at a time, and it doesn't help that Crennel was changing defensive philosihpies from a 4-3 to a 3-4, so he had to get players that could play his scheme. Now you have to ask yourself, what puts butts in the seats? Offense is the answer. To be able to sign free agents they Browns need to make money off of ticket, concession, and merchandise sales. An offense that can put up points will generate more sales. If the Browns fan find a nosetackle to anchor that defensive line, the defense will improve by leaps and bounds. Eric Wright, the second round draft pick of the Browns looks bad, but I think he has the skills and talent to become a Top 5 corner. But he's being asked to play one of the most difficult poistion in football as a starter his rookie year, so he's learning on the job. This will help in the long run. From what I have seen, the saftey play has been rather bad. Neither is giving the corners help uptop. I can tell the defensive backfield miss Brian Russell. When Gary Baxter gets healthy, I think he'll move to saftey. That'll be a big lift for the defense.

I never put something on one person... Whether it be a coach or player. The unit as a whole, scheme, players coaches... All have to buy into what they are doing and play hard.
The Steelers defense is living proof of that philosophy... Despite other defenses getting more attention, having more national stars and so on... Pittsburgh's D is almost always ranked in the top five and often as is the case this year first in the league. Cleveland has a ton of potential on defense... On paper from the outside it looks great. Wimbley with other young talents mixed in and veterans as is the case with Cleveland’s defense always seems like a great idea. Not being a part of the Browns family it is hard to know how well the team’s defensive scheme is so that could be a weakness. But it has shined at some points this year so that isn't completely fair to say. My assessment is this: For a unit, whether it is O, D or special teams to work well in this league, everything just has to click. It's as simple and as hard as that. Players, coach’s plays all just have to click. Cleveland’s offense is taking steps in the right direction... Maybe the defense will follow...

Thank you all to have responded thus far, and to those who still wish to respond. We are on Bye week so I will be trying to do the Honey do's this weekend. Plus taking down the batting cage in the back yard. I just hope it doesn't rain.
