Have you ever wondered?especially after a favorite team of your?s loses?why you care so much about your favorite sports team(s).
In some cases: A loss ruins days/weeks Games cause undue stress Sundays turn you into a candidate to receive anti-anxiety medicine for 4 hours Causes rescheduling of days Turns some otherwise normal people into very superstitious people. Causes us to argue/debate with people on the Internet that we don?t even know....and with a Preacher no less :>). ?all for 53 guys that we don?t know personally?or?if we did know them?we might not even like them as people. The easy answer is a lack of priorities, but we have all been there. Why do we care so much? |

I dunno. They're just games to me. If Sunday's game was at 1PM, I would miss it, or have Tivo'd it; I have a fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation that takes priority.
In terms of importance, the Steelers are pretty low on the list. They are a pasttime, not a way of life. Tom |

Our borders are as porous as a sponge yet how much time and money was spent to convene how many committees to find the truth that Pat Tilman was killed by friendly fire - a truth well known BEFORE they convened? And how many billions of dollars do scientists need for more computer models to come to a mutual conclusion about natural climate cycles? Should it really cost $500,000,000.00 to run for president? We're a doomed species. |

Maybe I am over affected by it, but when we are losing I am stressed out and if we lose I feel depressed for a day (sometimes more depending on the scale of the game) but if we win its completely the opposite! I feel pumped up and feel great.
I only miss games if there are very important things (such as family/friend problem/issue/emergencys) that get in the way. |

Well, as for me, I think the reason is obvious. I've lived in a bunch of different places. I've held a bunch of jobs, and have had a bunch of different bosses. I've had a lot of girlfriends (and I'm currently single, so that shows how well all those relationships have worked out). I've had 4 dogs in my life. I've owned a few different cars. I've had different computers and TV's. My musical preferences have changed a couple of times. I used to wear all black. All in all, I've had a lot of change in my life, but the Steelers were a constant. No matter what, every September the Steelers take the field for a new season, a fresh start, and even if the names on the back of the jerseys change, the name on the front doesn't. The Steelers (I also feel the same way about all the sports I watch) are an anchor in my life. No matter what my personal life is like at the time, the Steelers will always play on Sundays in the Fall, without fail.

I've thought about this before. Why do I care so much if my team loses? I don't know why maybe because it's sort of a self pride thing that "your team" won. Not really sure but I do know that I couldn't watch ESPN for about two weeks after the Steelers lost to the Pats in the 04-05 AFC championship game.

i think the fans get as involved for the same reason the players get so involved in playing it. why else would jack youngblood or d. mcnabb play with a fractured leg? why would trent green risk getting hit in the head again, or big ben in the gut, 2 weeks after having his appendix removed? how else could tom brady suit it up and play 2 days after a haircut and cuticle trimming? i think alot of people just like cheering for a game they loved playing as a kid. and in my view, football is the funnest game ever. (i never had a bad game as a kid. infact i was always more about the effort and enjoyment, than i was a win. love a win, but dont internalize a loss (unless its your fault, of course) Quote:

It gives us something to look forward to. I used to sulk for the whole week after the Steelers lost or any of my favorite teams. I have learned as I have gotten older and had some heart problems that it is not worth losing sleep over. But I am still extremely happy when they win and bummed when they lose. Last season was a bummer after the Super Bowl win the year before but I did not let it cause me to have a heart attack. I still curse like crazy when they play poorly and cheer like crazy when they win, but it is no longer life and death.
