Default Retailers dropping drawers!!!!!

If you are in the market for a new laptop, Walmart has an Acer Laptop (which is what I have & love) with a gig of Ram for $348. Also, if you are thinking about going HD DVD they have a toshiba HD DVD player for $99. I have this Toshiba model too & love it. The street price on this was around $500 in January. What's the catch? Get your butt to Walmart by tomorrow at 8 am & hope the supply lasts!

BTW, here is a good read on Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD for anyone considering making the plunge.

It sounds to me that in the short term, the best bet is to buy a cheapie HD DVD and rent movies. After the market sorts itself out then invest in a better quality player of whichever format emerges. I was strongly considering shelling out the $180 for the 360 player, but if there's one for $99 that wouldn't make much sense.

I think the $99 deal is a loss leader for walmart. I shopped this on line a few weeks ago w/ pricescan.com, pricegrabber.com, shopping.com, pricewatch.com, etc. and cheapest I found in the door was $229.

No luck. I went to 2 Wal-Marts and there was no sale, and the sales people looked at me like I was asking if I could eat their babies.

They both had the HD DVD player, but it was $298.
