Default I don't get this.

CBS only selectively shows NFL games in HD. Fox shows all their NFL games in HD. Can someone send a memo to the cheap asses at CBS and remind them that they are broadcasting National Football League games?

The reason I bring this up is I'm currently watching Ohio University vs Akron University (MAC teams) in high def on ESPN 2. There are about 50 people in the stands, the game has no meaning even in the MAC, yet the game is in HD, and CBS can't shell out the bucks to carry pro football games in HD? Shameful.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Rev mentioned a few months back that his alma mater is Akron(?)

Could be worse - last year CBS usually showed only 3-4 of the most popular games in HDTV. CBS simply is cheap. (I recall Steelers-Raiders and Steelers-Browns in Cleveland were SD last year)

CBS apparently increased the HDTV offerings this year because showing so many SD games in 2006 was starting to hurt ratings when Fox was broadcasting a competing HD game.

http://www.tvpredictions.com/cbsaudible042407.htm

That stiill involves having SD broadcasts for less popular games, which has involved a lot of Jax and Browns games (and Bills-Bengals last Sunday) but rarely the Steelers, who are a big AFC draw for casual fans.

The NFL supposedly has mandated all games are in HDTV next season.

Yeah, I went to Akron. And I'm not complaining about seeing the Zips in HD, but I AM complaining about CBS showing pro games in SD.

You get a HD broadcast on Superfan if it is in HD from the network - CBS will usually be runnning 1 or 2 SD broadcasts only each week, with the SD broadcast only being on the DirecTV channel below 720 or so in SD. HD broadcasts are on 2 DirectV channels - one SD channel and one Superfan HD channel around 720 or above. Local stations and DirecTV take what they are given

As stated in this link, last week Bills-Bengals was SD only - this week Fox is broadcasting Panthers-Falcons in SD only - it is the crap games that get the SD only treatment. That has meant a lot of Browns games in SD only but IMO the Bengals will be swapped out for the Browns for the SD treatment for the rest of this season

Yup. The Z team games get SD, and the Browns have been Z team fodder for 95% of the time since they've been back. They may step up into the D team zone at least for now, and teams like the Bungles will get the Ian Eagle/Soloman Wilcots SD broadcasts from here on out.

I was thinking the same thing. Heres an even better example, on the Big Ten network they apparently have the budget to broadcast womens volleyball in HD but CBS can't spring for every NFL game in HD??

And no, I wasn't watching womens Volley ball, just cruisin thru the channels. lol
