How different is this Steeler team from last year?

Of course, one person says this is the same 2006 Steelers team with all of it's flaws. (O-Line, Special Teams, etc...) While this may be somewhat true, the O-Line is still an issue, and Special Teams is still mediocre. So if this Steeler team is the same as last years why are... -The 2007 Steelers 7-2 and the 2006 Steelers 3-6 at this point of the season? -Not giving games away? -Putting up better Defensive Perfomances? -Putting up better Offensive Performances? -Not making boneheaded penalties? -Not getting blown out by Baltimore? In fact, they did the exact opposite. |

Not turnovering the ball is a reason. The fact that Ben is COMPLETELY different this year from last year (obviously in a good way). Also, we have a coach that actually cares unlike Cowher last year where he was lazy because he was pretty much half retired.

More balance in the offensive schemes, a healthy and totally confident Big Ben, maturation of our defensive youngins and a HC who rules with a steel fist.

QB play is the big difference, both in terms of scoring but turnovers as well.
The other big difference is the coaching staff is not focused on where they may be next season. OTOH special teams are as awful as ever

turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.. our defense was good last year too, we just kept giving other teams great field position because we couldnt protect the ball. keeping drives alive helps let the defense catch their breath also.

i think pretty much the only difference is ben roethlisberger and his emergence as a CONSISTENT pro bowl caliber player week in and week out

1. Ben is back in the engineer seat riding the train
2. Offence is not as predictable 3. Willie P is more consistant 4. IMO the TE are contribuiting more in the passing game

Not as many bone head penalties at key moments, athough that Kid from Syracuse had a 15 yard taunting yesterday, he needs slapped by Deshea or something.
