Default The foresnics of a Ben pass

Fox Sports Net has a series called sports science if you get a chance to watch it do it's really very interesting. They take athletes from different sports and turn them into a science project and show you sports from a science point of view. Anyway tonights first science project on tap was Ben's arm. They wired him up and this is how his arm works.

The 5 components of Ben's arm

1- Drop Back - 5 steps in 1.2 seconds covering 8 yards

2 - Eyes - Scans the field from defender to receiver back and forth at 50 millisecond intervals that's faster than a prey bird

3- Angular Velocity - Ben's wrist maxes out at 2900 degrees per second that is 490 RPM's. That's as fast as a chain saw

4- Arm speed - from shoulder to ball delivery 0 to 82 MPH in 0.18 seconds. Faster acceleration than a top fuel dragster

5- Release - The ball spins off Ben's fingers at 12 revolutions per second that's 60 MPH

From snap to release it takes Ben 1.5 seconds to throw the ball.

Joey Porter was the blind side quarterback hit project 14MPH at 1160 lbs of force is the velocity of the hit. Comparable to getting hit in the back by a crazed rodeo bull.

It was some interesting stuff.

the show is very interesting. they did one on cheap shots too.. but the ben was quite funny when the linebacker came around to hit him, ben caught him with his elbow and then said that is what quarterbacks do, they make grown men cry...

Too bad our OL can only seem to hold their blocks for about .9 seconds....
