Default Patriots Better Next Year?

I saw something on Sportscenter this morning that I found very disturbing, the way the NFL Draft looks right now, the 49ers get the 2nd overall pick, and if that happens, the Patriots will get that pick via a trade. Assuming the Dolphins don't pick him, the Pats could possibly pick Darren McFadden in the draft. I don't know about you, but I am cheering for San Fran to win a few more games this year.

The 49ers thought they were on the verge of really doing big things in the NFC this year and thats why they traded with the Pats to get back in the first round in this past draft to draft OT Joe Staley........So they gave the Pats their 08 first round draft pick.....Which with the 49ers totally sucking this year gave the Pats a top pick in the draft....What a dumb move now....lol The 49ers really over-rated their own team.....Putting to much faith in Alex Smith and Frank Gore...Both havn't lived up to the expectations....Smith especially....He looks more and more a product of Urban Meyer's system.......

i would love to see them have to pay a rookie more than anybody else on their team.

plus moss, samuel, and stallworth could all be gone with key young players looking for a new big $$$ contract.

this is as good as it gets for the patriots.

especially with old age and salary cap hell right around the corner. i think they would trade out of the pick. i hope all 31 teams severly lowball them and force them to either take way less than market value for the pick or be forced to use it on themseves (best case scenario in my eyes).

The Pats basically traded their 1st rounder last year for Randy Moss and the #2 pick this year....Nice!

they have basically raped alot of teams with trades in their sb era.

bills
ravens
seahawks
raiders
49ers
and to some extent the dolphins.

they stole dillon from the bungles but a 2nd rounder was probably higher than market value just like the deal for welker.

about the only thing i respect and can appreciate about the pats is the way they were and are still able to bend teams over when it comes to pulling off trades.

I don't think they would go for McFadden. If they did, I would believe he would only be trade fodder (Unless they want to trade Maroney already). Since they just drafted a runningback in the first round with Maroney, I think trading down would be an obvious solution for this team. They don't want to deal with many more primetime contracts and if they expect the offense to maintain this level of play throughout the next few seasons (Yeah right) another back isn't necessary. I would expect them to go defense, whether it be an inside linebacker or if they let Asante Samuels go a corner.... Harrison isn't getting any younger but they're aware he is on the roids so he has some years left in him lol... I would expect a trade down though and if Belichick really wanted to stick it to the league, I could even see them doing a flat first round for first round (09) trade... (Of course a little more would be included with the 09 pick)... Anyway, lol - I think McFadden is the last thing we need to worry about with the Pats.

They could potentially owe 80 million for 5 players next year....They will probably trade out of the first round since their biggest need is LB...and the LB class is deep.
They could easliy get a future starter to replace their aging LBers in the second and third round.
Simply put...therre has to be some anxiety in the Patriots camp about getting a Lombardi this year, because they have probably priced themeselves out of contention next year.

Unless Moss resigns with the patriots for far less money, Moss wont be back. And fact of the matter is that defense isnt getting any younger. And asante samuel could easily not be back as well. Hell even Mr. belicheat could retire. There are alot of questions about this team...
