KIFFIN "PISSED" HE DIDN'T GET ARKANSAS JOB
An industry source tells us that Raiders coach Lane Kiffin was "pissed" that he didn't get hired as the next head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks. The job instead went to former Falcons coach Bobby Petrino. Here's our question. Since when did Arkansas become such a plum job? Regardless, and as we hear it, Kiffin wanted it. He manifested his displeasure by, as we're told, slamming doors and cursing. It's bizarre. The guy is the head coach of an NFL team. He has done well in his first year. Why in the heck does he want to give up what could be a promising career at the highest level of the sport? So if Kiffin wanted Arkansas, then we assume that he'd be interested in other available college jobs. And that, as a result, he's possibly not long for the Raiders. As to the Raiders' position on all of this, we're told that the belief is that owner Al Davis would be happy to let Kiffin go. "It's the same deal there as it was in Atlanta," the source said. "No one is real happy." |

It appears that maybe the NFL isn't what it's cracked up to be...coaching wise.

One small example - in preseason Petrino put out the word he wanted silence on the flights for away games. That approach may work with 19 year olds from whom you can yank their scholarships, but it is nonsense in terms of coaching wealthy men as opposed to coaching boys. |

College coaches can't (and don't want) to put in the work necessary to be truly great in the NFL when they can be the star of their own little fiefdom. Anyone see the replay of the press conference, with that goofy Razorback chant/cheer? How weird! |

I think it's more that although both games are called football, the skill sets that go into being a successful coach is different for college and pro. Just as it is rare for a college coach to have success in the pros, it is equally rare for a pro coach to be successful in college (Weis, Wannstedt).

Hmmmmmm. The coach of the Raiders wanted to coach at Arkansas. Says a little something about the status of that job out in Oakland. How many dozens of coaches turned down Davis' offer before Kiffin finally accepted?

its simple, lane kiffin was waiting until the end of the season to see if it was open then, but he is pissed at bobby petrino for being classless and leaving in the middle of the season.

I don't think I could really blame Kiffin if he wants out of Oakland.
He's working for the Cryptkeeper, errr, Al Davis. Al Davis is a big reason of why the Raiders have fallen so hard. I think Kiffin could turn the Raiders around. However, the job security in Oakland is horrible. He could be fired after this season, especially since this report has surfaced.

I have been thinking the past couple days that maybe kiffin could be a canidate at michigan. There are 3 jobs in the nfl I would never want. Cowboys, raiders and redskins. All have control freak owners. I wouldn't blame kiffin one bit if he fled for a college job
