That depends on who's on the board at the time. Look, I'm all for finding a stud offensive lineman who the team can rebuild the line around. But at the same time, a talent like Cason (and maybe Taib) is rare and if you can can grab them where the Steelers will be in the first round, it's still a good value for the pick.

What about the center that we drafted last year. Should we give him a shot or move simmons to center?

maybe pitt should think about drafting desean jackson from cal if he his on the board at the time... he can fill in three spots that we need.. he can be a #3 guy from the go... he can be a returner.. and be a replacement for hines in the future... 3 in 1 package in him... and in the later round look at Adam Spieker, from Missouri

sadly the steelers won't get him, he's going to be paid a very large contract and very well deserved.

Drayton Florence could be someone the steelers pick. he's not bad, but he's not the best either,a middle tier free agent, but a solid player. he could replace townsend down the stretch. it could be between him and B Mac for the #2 CB spot
NiCE!! now drayton florence i agree but i was impressed he held off cromartie for soo long...

IMO, the O-line and D-line are the steelers two biggest concerns.

aa. smith is returning from an injury and he is in his 30's. hoke is in his 30's. hampton is getting fatter each year. eason hasn't shown much. kirschke is getting old and is basically an average player. the jury is still out on mcbean, but i don't expect much promise. i believe kirschke is also a FA. keisel needs to be cut for some cap room. he is too small to play the line in a 3-4.

faneca and starks are probably gonein the FA market. smith is returning from another neck/back injury. essex is...well essex. colon is a guard, not a tackle. simmons is...well simmons. mahan is not a center. hopes are riding on stapleton to be the new center. kemo is all brawn no brain.

Talib and Cason are weak. In the SECOND ROUND Go with my man Brandon Flowers from VT who is probably a better man to man corner than any of them. But if we're REALLY talking corner, i'd rather pass up on it completely and add some talent on the D-line. We haven't had an upgrade at that position for a really long time, and we def. need a WR that can go up and get the ball. Someone bigger than Nate Washington.

i've been hearing good things about brandon flowers... but yet there are always people who stereotype and say anyone at VT has character issues... (both vicks, williams...the list goes on...)

if at all possible trading up to get early doucet in the second round could be beneficial though not very likely... he reminds me of hines a lot because he's a solid blocker and solid catching the ball

No character problems w/ Flowers. A lot of things I've read say he could be the best pro corner to come from VT.

They've been putting out some other pretty solid talent w/ out character issues, and D. Hall hasn't really DONE anything off the field. Doucet would be a BEAST in pitt i think. I think he could come in and do good things for us right away, (as long as he can stay healthy), and he's physical after the catch.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever read on this message board.

Kentwan Balmer, DT, North CarolinaPrior to the '07 season Balmer was considered to be an underachiever who didn't play up to his full potential but that began to change as a senior. In his first three years of college ball Balmer only managed to rack up 7.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks but as a senior he topped those career totals, coming through with 9.5 TFL and 3.5 sacks. A powerful player in the middle with good quickness and athleticism, Balmer has emerged as one of the top defensive tackles available and he could also get looks from teams that run a 3-4 scheme
This young man would be a great addition to our defensive line in my opinion.
