PSU offense rolls, Paterno ties Bowden

Evan Royster scored three rushing touchdowns and Stephfon Green scored two as the No. 22 Nittany Lions rolled over Coastal Carolina at Beaver Stadium.

The final score was 66-10, with Coastal hitting a field goal as time ran out.

The win was Coach Joe Paterno's 373rd, tying Bobby Bowden in career wins. Florida State opens next weekend.

Royster scored on Penn State's first two possessions, giving the Nittany Lions a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Then the fireworks began.

Coastal Carolina scored early in the second quarter when a wide open receiver found the end zone.

Derrick Williams returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, giving Penn State a 21-7 lead in the season opener.

And Jordan Norwood caught a short touchdown pass from Daryll Clark for the Nittany Lions to make it 28-7 midway in the second quarter.

Pat Devlin entered the game and hit Norwood on a long pass. Green scored his first TD on a 5-yard run, and it is 35-7 with 5 minutes until half.

Kevin Kelly kicked a short field goal in the final minute of the first half, giving Penn State a 38-7 lead at the break.

Evan Royster scored again at the start of the third, as the lead climbed to 45-7, and Green added his second touchdown soon afterward. Chaz Powell scored late in the third, and Brandon Beachum scored in the fourth.

Coastal hit a closing field goal to make it 66-10.

Penn State plays Oregon State at 3:30 p.m. next Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Beavers are 0-1, after losing to Stanford on Thursday night.

Wow. PSU beat up on the fighting chickens. Who do they play next week, Bloomsburg? My huskies would beat em in a shootout!

The only way you take anything seriously is if you don't win by 50+ against a small school like Coastal Carolina. Not for nothing but CC actually moved the ball pretty well against the PS Defense, even though the score doesn't reflect that. Joe Pa has some work to do before the Big 10 schedule kicks in.

As Joe Pa always says, "You make the most improvements from the first to the second game"

Barley lost to Stanford? In other words another cupcake team. OSU is usually a decent program, but if you lose to Stanford, mustnt be much in the cupboard.

PSU will lose at least 3 Big Ten games this year.

The Games I trust your projecting to be losses are OSU(The better one), Wisconsin, and who??? If Michigan plays as they did yesterday vs. Utah(and PSU doesn't shoot themselves in the foot), Michigan will be watching the Penn State Student Section not even listen to authorities and rush the field after the game. Don't see a loss to Illinois coming. No loss coming vs. Indiana, Michigan State, Purdue, etc. Name me that 3rd loss.

OSU, Wisconsin and the choke game when Michigan comes to town. Possibly MSU.

Funny how Michigan is down and all the PSU fans are talking. Cant beat a fully stocked Wolverine squad, but theres premature celebrations when they look to be down. Michigan will click by then and beat PSU by a score.
