Well, to be fair, it ain't rocket science. Most of what he said was pretty effing obvious. He lost me several times, though. Faneca has to go, and it's absurd, silly and unrealistic to think that there is any scenario that satisfies both parties to keep him.

I've already said FA is the way to go for WR, but he's wrong about there only being Cedric Wilson type guys out there. I think there is value in the FA market for big WR's (which Ben clearly wants) that won't bust the bank.

I agree, Bring in either Wilford, B. Johnson ( I really like him), and Gage, and hopefully it will help ben. He says he missing have a tall guy to see and throw too, and I'm pretty sure he played w/ a monster at UM-Ohi. that was like 6-5 or something and everyone was pimping to take him the year after bens rookie year (which was the same year we lost plax.

He also played the shotgun almost all college with a receiver like that, why not give him one.

actually revs ,thats not what he's saying. what he's saying is that the steelers won't compete for a top tier guy looking for a bigger payday, they'll only invest in a second tier guy like wilson...

But if the Steelers get a receiver through free agency, it will be someone on Cedrick Wilson?s level.

I think that the Steelers have proven in the past that they usually make the right moves in FA. Ryan Clark was a decent addition to our defense, but he isnt what Chris Hope was that he replaced. Hope meant alot more to our secondary than I thought for sure. We must fix that on our defense as well as getting depth for our D Line. Our most important task I believe on the offensive line is at Center. We must get a good center to take over our great tradition of Centers in this league. Sean Mahan Is Not The Man for the Job!!

No, I got it MOP, I was disagreeing with him saying that the Steelers won't spend more than Cedric Wilson money. I think a guy like Wilford could really break out on the Steelers because of the talent around him. Ward can still play, Santo is going to have a huge year next year, and Wilford would be a very nice 2nd option for Ben.

That’s with one notable exception: Big Ben will get a contract extension that includes $32 million or so in guaranteed money. Much as they would like to, the Steelers can’t escape that facet of NFL reality. To keep the big-time quarterback, you’ve got to splash the big-time cash. I just hope a defibrillator is handy when Dan Rooney is handed the pen.

despite the love madden is getting for writing a pretty simple article (as rev pointed out) it is this type of trash that perpetuates the horrible myth of the rooneys being cheap.

i cant remember how long rooney spent in the hospital affter penning troy polamalus deal but it definitely wasnt long and signing ben wont be a matter of life and death.

im sure mr rooney has been around the block a few times and knows you dont walk into a mercedes dealership looking to pay ford focus prices.

Yep, as much as I hate to say it, because I cannot stand the guy, this was probably the best article I've ever read by him. No, it's not rocket science, but it was well thought out and not full of his usual scattershot vitriol.

But don't get used to it. He'll be back to his usual garbage soon enough.
