I thought about this thread last night as I sat down to settle my 2 year old to bed and couldn't believe of the hundreds of channels on cable that nothing was on - unless I wanted to hear the gurgling of the patriacheats on sports.

There are some shows that I really enjoy but it seems with the writers strike they won't be on for some time. Looks like it's going to be the food network - much to my wife's approval - on in my household.

well i mean all the shows aren't new except for the reality shows b/c of the dumb ass writer's strike.. i mean i agree with u that nothing is on b/c shows can't write anything new stuff

Actually---there are a few gems out there still---if a very few. And NBC at least has been juggling its shows so that its stil airing some new ones even despite the writers strike.

anyone who likes dramas may I suggest:
"Friday Night Lights" ---NBC tangentially about football, critcally aclaimed

"Heroes" --- NBC (when it comes back on). Also critically acclaimed

"The Sarah Conner Chronicles"---FOX, Terminator sequel--- well done

"House" ---FOX, new shows start next week

"The Riches"---a personal little gem no one knows about---new ones start in March on FX---seriously, check this one out if you like smart TV.

Lost is pretty good too, and it's coming back next week for 8 consecutive episodes I think

The expansion of channels might be part of the problem. Ignore the special interest channels--they focus on something you care about or you don't.

But there are 5 networks now plus several cable channels. That spreads out the amount of quality programming and allows crap that wouldn't have made the cut in the past to get on the air. Kind oflike expansion diluting pitching, except in baseball the population has grown and they can draw players from more countries to pick up the slack. Meanwhile the opposite happens on TV--the best ideas have already been done so you have more airtime drawing from a smaller pool.

Two other problwms--the decline in morality, which leads to writers pushing the envelope instead of being creative; and better specil effects technology, which causes producers to focus on that instead of a good storyline.

Have to say that Lost is indeed an awesome TV show. Another show I fell in love with is The Office. Took me a while to like that show but it grows on you as you get to know the characters and their quirks.

Of course the only two shows I like haven't aired new episodes in a while, so ya, TV is bad.
