You can't teach someone to throw thier body around like this kid does. Not many players have the combination of ballz and physical ability to hit like him. He will be just fine.

I continue to fail to see how Smith ran his mouth. This is what I saw and heard on the interview, he said that if the steelers played the way they are capable of playing then they will win. Where is the guarantee in that? I hope that's what a football player or any other athlete of another sport would say about their team. How is this running his mouth? You people have blinders on, which limits you seeing past your nose. All this was blown totally out of proportion and the media once again took someones comments out of context. You are probably the type of people that actually believe Saddam Hussein was responsible for the attacks on 9/11 and that there was WMD's in Iraq. You believe whatever the media monster feeds you...

Apparently our own coach had a problem with it, judging that he went out of his way to address it during a team meeting, but what does he know right? He must have had his "blinders" on at the time......

"Guarantees aren't worth the paper they're written on," a clearly annoyed Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday. "It's not about what we say. It's about what we do."

All coaches loathe distractions. Tomlin felt this one was significant enough to address it a team meeting. His message -- not just to Smith, but to all the players -- was speak for yourself, not for the squad or the organization.

" 'Write your own checks. Don't write 'em for the whole team,' " Smith recalled, presumably getting the message, although, considering his track record, that might be an overly optimistic presumption.

Many of the Steelers, though not as annoyed as Tomlin, didn't seem to appreciate Smith's guarantee even though they know he's recklessly emotional. They saw that last season, his rookie season, when he high-stepped like a show horse after an interception at Carolina, showed up defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau on the sideline in the seconds afterward and received a public scolding from then-coach Bill Cowher, who said, "He learned from it."

Well, not exactly.

Smith was run over by Cleveland's Jamal Lewis on one play a few weeks ago, then tackled Lewis on the next play and stood over him and taunted him, drawing a personal foul penalty.

Then again, we can just blame the media for the idiocy and immaturity Smith has shown over the last two years, that seems to work. I'm sure Tomlin would be all for that. It's not like the man preaches personal responsibility on a regular basis.

I agree I think that Smith needs to learn how to control his mouth, now I am not saying that he needs to not say anything but I think that he needs to learn what to say and when to say it, although I like where his head is in being aggressive when he needs to be and not be aggressive when he doesn't.

Once again we are back on the whole media thing, where someone says that they were misqouted and that the media is just looking for a story.

If anyone watched Stan last night there was a caller that asked about the gurantee that Smith made compared to what Burress said. Stan said that the reporter that asked the question first asked Smith twice about the gurantee, and then once other reporters heard about it that they went and asked Smith personally if he was going to stand by that statement, and everytime each reporter asked him he said the same thing. Smith made a gurantee, and there is not side stepping that, he not only said it once but he told different reporters the same thing each time he was asked.

Just say no comment, or I am not going to answer that, don't get yourself in trouble with saying stupid things, think before you speak, and not eveyone can be like Joe Nameth when it comes to predictions.

idk... it's great that he's gonna change but he has to start calming down... the angrier you get on the field the more mistakes occur.. that is his problem and he has to fix it..

following a recent post about his 4.7 speed i'm a little skeptical about how "great" a safety he can be...

The guy played at Syracuse...think about that for a second...how good do you think the D-line and Linebackers at Syracuse actually were? Probably not that good, so he had to spend most of his time at safety engaged in Run Support. That's probably what got him noticed in the first place by the Steelers. A safety that tackles running backs is something everyone wants. So he needs to be more a cover guy, but his habit and style is run support.

He is a young frisky player who is finally transitioning himself into a fine lean NFL player.
He is realizing the foolish game style he plays and is realizing what he should and should not do on the field.
I still see alot of sparkle in this young mans eye and im sure over they years he will turn into a fine run of the mill hard hitting safety!

i think when he improves his cov skill we will have a sick safetyu tandem.. i just hope he can become better and possibly start over clark whether he can't play due to injury or smith becomes smarter and beats him out.. and get a replacement for carter..
