Default Super Bowl ratings: Pittsburghers sure do hate the Pats

I' m sure by now most have heard that the game was the most wached Super Bowl in history at 97 million viewers and change. However, note within this article the top five markets for the game based on HH ratings (which are a % of all TVs households).

Who watched where?
Interestingly enough, New York City wasn't among the metropolitan areas most-glued to TV sets for the Giants' win, according to NFL numbers.

Top 5 markets, SB XLII ratings Market Rating
Boston 55.6
Indianapolis 54.1
Jacksonville 52.0
Pittsburgh 50.8
Washington., D.C. 50.3

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playof...ory?id=3230863

So Pittsburgh had a higher rating than even NY. I guess so many tuned in praying for divine intervention to smite the evil Pats.

Yep, hate is a four letter word.

I'm not surprised this was the highest rated SB at all.

I was reading comments at some articles posted yesterday, and what the NE people don't seem to get is that 90% (my completely unscientific guess) of all football fans were praying the Patriots would go down in flames. Not because we were jealous, but because we dispproved of their image, attitude and tactics (to put it mildly). They seem to think the whole country was Pats fans and were hoping for that perfect 19-0. They just don't get it. They and their coach are just. not. liked and respected by the majority of fans, at least not any more.

And it worked! Kind of restores your faith, don't it? Very satisfying.

My worst nightmare was a Cowboys vs Patriots Super Bowl. I would just have to hope the field was struck by lightning or something - no way I wanted either one of them to get another ring. Fortunately, Romo choked once again in a post season game, so at least I didn't have to worry about that!

Name me one NFL fanbase outside of the New England states who doesn't hate the Patriots?

Don't give the excuse that Dynasty teams are hated. The 60's Packers were hated, the 70's Steelers were hated, the 80's 49ers were hated, and the 90's Cowboys were hated. But there is one thing that lets them standout from the Puketriots. They won with honor and dignity. Their coaches didn't need to cheat. They are respected, historical dynasties. The Patriots are not. Not anymore.

The Eagles fans hate the Giants, but in general the city of Philly basically couldn't care less who won. That's how much people hate the Patriots. On the ESPN sportsnation poll, the question asked: "Are you happy the Patriots lost?" The results were not even close. Over 70% said yes. The other 20% were probably Pats fans, or Vegas bettors who lost money. There's a reason why XLII was highly rated. Many fans wanted to see Patriots defeated and destroyed.

The Patriots are not and never will be America's Team. They are the Anti-Christ in the NFL. And it shows. And rightfully so.

Not really that suprising. Jets fans wouldn't have much reason to tune in. They were rooting for the meteor.

I work at a gas station and the only customers of mine that were rooting for the Patriots were Patriot fans.

The only co-worker is from New England and she was rooting for them more-so to piss me off than anything else.

Dynasties don't lose Super Bowls in their era.

The Packers didn't lose an NFL Championship Game or Super Bowl in their era.

The Steelers didn't lose a Super Bowl in the 70's.

The 49ers didn't lose a Super Bowl in the 80's.

The Cowboys didn't lose a Super Bowl in the 90's.

In the 2000's the Pats have gone 3-1 in Super Bowls. Not a dynasty.

Interesting point and I can agree with it.

i had a feeling it would break the record. the pats got high ratings all year because everyone tuned in hoping to see them go down. this was the most lopsided super bowl in terms of rooting interest that we may ever see.
