I think Justin Smith playing DE would make our D- so dynamic that our sack totals would soar!!! Love the idea.....

I doubt Smith will ever be a Steeler. Muhammad I could see ending up in Tennessee. The reason I say that is, this year we all know the Titans will take prob 2 wr's in the draft. He would be a good mentor for the younger receivers they will be bringing in.

Who the hell is Justin Smith? Some of you are talking this guy up as if he's another Reggie White. Hey people, we play the Bengals twice every season and have done so for many years. How often did you see Justin Smith sacking our QB or disrupting ANYTHING in our backfield? Justin Smith is a bum.

Besides, according to a lot of you our defensive line is "cream of the 3-4 scheme crop" so why in the heck would the Steelers want to add Justin Smith?

Some of you need to avoid viewing the waiver wire. You seem to get a tingle at nearly every release but MOST of these guys are BUMS! The Steelers approach has always been to avoid these types of players and I'm thankful for that.

Give it a month or so and we may see the Steelers sign a DB or LB that they expect will play special teams for them. I'm sure that the signing won't satisfy your overwhelming hunger to sign a high dollar free agent but it may tide you over for a bit.

Agreed I don't see where either would be an upgrade to what we already have.

Muhammad actually wouldn't be a bad pick up if we can get him on the cheap. yes, his numbers dropped off in Chicago. Chicago, a run first team with no QB for 3 years. I think with Ward and Holmes, Muhammad is the kind of guy that would really fit in as our #3 guy. He's got great hands and knows the game very well.

A 2 or 3 year deal for him might be worth a look. If he doesn't make it through camp because he's "old" so be it, but I think the guy would play hard for the Steelers, would help to groom some younger guys, would learn the system quick and would take a lot of pressure off Ward and Holmes, and Miller as Muhammad wouldn't draw any double teams until later on in a season when his numbers dicated more attention needed paid to him.

I liked the guy at Carolina, and was shocked he took the Chicago deal since they don't pass the ball well.

for the same price, mushin would be a huge upgrade over c. wilson.

he had 40 catches last year, and has averaged over 14ypc in 4 of his last 5 seasons. he is durable and there is prescedent of the steelers making a move like this when they brought in terence mathis to finish out his career.

sure we need to get younger, but we also need to get better.

Agree 100% on Smith, does'nt fit, don't need him, don't want him.

Hopefully we sign several FAs that have an impact on the team, but it will most likely be just as SteelPit stated. The team will most likely go after DBs and LBs that will be for depth and special teams. Hopefully

Agreed, a real upgrade over Wilson for sure. Then we'd have the guy with the longest running td in a superbowl and the guy with the longest pass reception td in a superbowl in the same offense.

Actually if you watch the Steelers/Bengals playoff game..you will see that Smith was by far the best Defensive player the Bengals had...led the team in Tackles.

Smith is a VERY good player, and when the Bengals had something that even resembled a LB corp...he was a Monster. He has the size, strength and the speed to be a 3-4 DE.

It was only this last year when the Bengals LBers were a joke that teams just double teamed him. He was held to 2 sacks but had 78 tackles on the season...Over the last 4 years he has averaged 73.5 tackles a year and 6.2 sacks.

If we were to pick him up he would start on the other side of Smith...as an improvement over Kiesel.

Kiesel is 6'5 285...Smith is 6'4 275..so we wouldnt give up anything except that Smith has a little speed to go along with comparable strength.

We are so thin at DE ...this would be a great signing...sorry to disagree but MAN..I would take him tommorrow!!!!
