And Travis Kirshke has done what for the Steelers. This was a waste of good cap space. We need players that are going to make an impact and a plus would be on the youth side. Kirshke is 33 years old. I would rather have Ryan McBean on the line instead of Kirshke. There are better options than this.

he was good in the 2nd jax game, and having a veteran backup never hurts

I agree that we need younger guys, but if both aaron smith and brett keisel get injured (*knocks wood*) having a veteran like Kirshke would help the team

Don't bet on either happening we all know now and even stated the Steelers or should i say Rooney's will more than likely not take free agents and it will be a desperate move if made.
Muhammad is too old and is not the same and not worth the money and Smith i do not see coming over and more than likely won't.

Smith is a VERY good player, and when the Bengals had something that even resembled a LB corp...he was a Monster. He has the size, strength and the speed to be a 3-4 DE.

It was only this last year when the Bengals LBers were a joke that teams just double teamed him. He was held to 2 sacks but had 78 tackles on the season...Over the last 4 years he has averaged 73.5 tackles a year and 6.2 sacks.

If we were to pick him up he would start on the other side of Smith...as an improvement over Kiesel.

Kiesel is 6'5 285...Smith is 6'4 275..so we wouldnt give up anything except that Smith has a little speed to go along with comparable strength.

We are so thin at DE ...this would be a great signing...sorry to disagree but MAN..I would take him tommorrow!!!!
I'm not saying that Smith has always been a bum. I just haven't seen him do much for a few years. It's sad to say but I do watch a lot of Bengals games, in hopes that they lose, and Smith just plays OLD anymore. I agree that he is probably the best defensive player that the Bengals have but, is that saying a mouth full?

I suppose I wouldn't complain too much if the Steelers signed him to a league minimum contract but I don't see him signing for that type of money. My fuss was directed towards the notion of the Steelers signing him to a big money contract that he's probably going to get from someone.

I don't believe that Smith will ever earn the money that he's about to receive so therefore, factoring in his performance the past couple of seasons with a new big money contract, I will have to conclude that he'll be a bust, or as I prefer, a BUM!

Ok, first and foremost, the Pittsburgh Steelers are NOT going to a 4-3 defense. No way, no shape, no how. Woodley is not a 4-3 LB. Smith is not a 4-3 DE. Niether is Keisel, or Keirscke who just got a new 2 year deal. WE DO NOT HAVE THE PERSONEL TO RUN THE 4-3 ON A FULL TIME BASIS! We've made no attempt to draft the needed personel needed for a 4-3. This team is a 3-4 team. Lebeau runs a 3-4 defense. Bottom line, end of story.

Next, Justin Smith would be a perfect fit in 3-4 as a DE. Big & strong with a high motor. However, what do you with Keisel? I suppose seeing as though he lead the team in QB pressures last season he could be moved to OLB, but then who sits, Woodley or Harrison? One solution would be to cut the ageing James Farrior, and move Harrison to ILB. Then you could slide Keisel to OLB ala Mike Vrabel. Your LB corp would then look like this: Woodley-Timmons-Harrison-Keisel with Kriewaldt & Foote as the back ups At ILB with A.Harrison & Frazier at the backups at OLB. This would insure that we have our best players on the field at once.

I disagree that Muhammad is too old. He'd come cheap, would really be a great asset to younger receivers and is coming from a place that hasn't had a qb in years worth a dang and is a strong player over all. He'd be a great fit at #3 on our roster and would be better than what we currently have at 3. Word about the guy is that he does pay attention to younger talent on a team and does encourage and teach as much as he does anything else. Wilson for me, hasn't done a thing for 2 years. Holmes and Ward are fantastic, we just need that really good #3. For cheap money, Muhammad could be that guy.

IF we could could muhammad cheap, then i say we get him (smith will defintaely get overpaid somewhere). he's taller, brings experience, seems pretty professional and knows his days are numbered on getting a ring so he might take a discount because almost guarentee someone will offer him more money than the steelers would. depends who that is and what he wants more. better chance at a championship or more money.
