I found this here http://www.steelertribute.com/DRAFTHIS.HTM

I thought this would be a good stroll down memory lane. Its funny to see how many of our first round picks worked out and how many didn't . The Steelers have been a franchise so long we drafted one of the greatest poets of all time in 1936.
Enjoy!!!

Never realised Teddy Marchibroda was a former first round pick of the steelers.

Thanks for the list.

1970 is my favourite year by far (my year of birth) but also one of the best picks for the franchise. 1987 is another favourite year for first rounders.

1976, Bennie Cunningham, My Pop worked with him in New Jersey. Bennie was working for a trucking company. Had my dad look at one of my Steelers Plaques showing the Team from those years, he confirmed, that was the Bennie he worked with. Bennie would wear a SB Ring once in a while to the office according to my pop.

I always loved saying Abercrombie.

Next to that Weegie Thompson was a great handle.

I always liked the name Louis Lipps. How could you name your son that. Its like naming your kid Moose Knuckle.

Remember once I was watching the Steelers on MNF and Frank Gifford kept saying AbercrAmbie (Gifford did the play-by-play back then and only moved to the analyist chair a few years after AL Micheals. joined MNF) . .. to wit Meridith deadpanned; "yea Frank, that AbercAmbie is one heck of a player." MNF really was entertaining with Howard, "Dandy Don" and Frank.

The other thing I remember about Abercrombie was how frustrated Noll used to get with him. There were rumors at the time that Noll used to call runs up the middle into the line just so Abercrombie would get knocked around a bit - presumably so Noll could get his attention.

Alas, Abercrombie never really panned out with the Steelers. Still, at least he had a productive career after football when he teamed up with a young upstart named Fitch.
