Default Stallworth to Browns

The Browns are looking to make a run at the division this season, for sure.

Quote:
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Cleveland Browns have signed free-agent wide receiver Donte' Stallworth.

Although terms of the deal have not been reported, Stallworth was said to be seeking a deal that would pay about $5 million a year, with about $10 million in guaranteed money. Stallworth became an unrestricted free agent when he was released by the New England Patriots just before a hefty roster bonus came due.

For the Browns, the addition of Stallworth should make their passing attack even more potent. Quarterback Derek Anderson had a good first season as the team's starter in 2007, and shortly after locking Anderson up for three more years, the Browns have now given him another weapon.

Cleveland has been one of the more active teams in the early days of the new league year, and Browns fans had better hope the team made the right calls on their veteran contracts. The Browns have traded away their first-, second- and third-round picks in this year's draft, meaning they won't get the influx of young talent that most NFL teams count on.

Say what you will about the Browns, but they are going to give us a hell of a time this season.

Default Browns agree to contract with Stallworth.

Quote:
On the first day of NFL free agency, the Cleveland Browns first locked up quarterback Derek Anderson with a three-year deal.

On Saturday, they gave him a new target to pass to.

According to a source, Donte' Stallworth, who played last season with the New England Patriots, agreed to terms on a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns, $10 million of which is guaranteed.

Stallworth caught 46 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns as part of a receving corps that included Wes Welker and Pro Bowler Randy Moss.

Stallworth's best overall season was in 2005 when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns as a member of the New Orleans Saints.

A Browns shirt with the name Stallworth is just so wrong!

Haha. I agree TeeJay.

The Browns came so close last season that they playoffs or bust this season. I guarantee you they regret trading those picks away and drafting Brady Quinn.

I realize they don't have any first day draft picks this year, but how much stock can really be put into that argument. First day players bust all the time. They have hit FA hard and made moves that make sense. The only real lose has been Bodden.

They have made big moves for the defensive front seven, resigned the QB they wanted and even bought him a new toy.

I'm not impressed with Stallworth. That's a lot of money to give him, when you have 2other guys (Edwards and Winslow) who will want more money.
