Scout talk: Best small-school prospects by position
By Dan Pompei | Tribune staff reporter 5:16 PM CST, March 8, 2008 Not all NFL players come from schools like Southern California and Miami. Some come from unlikely places. Here are the best small-school prospects by position. QB—Joe Flacco, Delaware. He has a chance of being the second quarterback taken after Matt Ryan, and could go in the first round. RB—Xavier Omon, Northwest Missouri State. He dominated in Division II, becoming the first player in NCAA history to rush for 1,500 yards four times. TE—Kolomona Kapanui, West Texas A & M. He transferred from USC, so you know he has talent. OL—Heath Benedict, Newberry. Transfer from Tennessee lacks top athleticism, but he could develop into a decent NFL guard. DL—Kendall Langford, Hampton. He's raw, but his size and strength will appeal to NFL teams. LB—Curtis Johnson, Clark Atlanta. He played defensive end in college, but at the East-West Shrine Game and combine, he has shown he could be an OLB in a 3-4. S— Bobbie Williams, Bethune Cookman. He has enough speed and athleticism and the nose for the ball to get a shot. CB—Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, Tennessee State. Small-school players traditionally do well at cornerback, and he could be the first corner taken in the draft. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune....,4887789.story Last edited by lamberts-lost-tooth; 03-10-2008 at 09:10 AM. |

Matt Forte from Tulane.
Not someone the Steelers would look at, but he's one of the best running backs in the draft. |

Dominique Rogers Cromartie is probably the best small school player in the draft, hell, he is possibly the best player in the draft period.
