First lets look at what has happened so far....the Steelers have added OC Justin Hartwig and Sean Mahan is most probably going to be a OG/backup OC. The Steelers also cut Cedric Wilson. Losing Wilson doesn?t change the top three WRs on the team... but it does open the possibility of drafting a developmental WR. Keyaron Fox has been added to our roster as a backup LBer...and "hopefully" a special teams demon. Likewise, Melwede Moore, a third-down running back and kick return specialist was added for depth and for special teams.
Every year, we all start clamoring for our Steelers to trade down and pick up more draft picks. Traditionally, my instinct ist that we will stay with our initial pick. For a trade down to occur... it takes our willingness to move down the draft and possibly miss out on some good players in order to pick up additional picks...you have to find a trading partner that wants not only to trade up, but to trade up to your team?s pick. That involves so many factors that are out of any team?s control that its often vitually impossible for it too happen ( and harder to predict).....However, this year the Steelers may actually have an opportunity to trade down . To be tempted to trade...a team must want a player that is not likely to be there when they pick because that player may be wanted by a team with picks immediately after the Steelers. ...in this case the Titans Seahawks and Jags. (In other words they need to leapfrog these teams picking directly after the Steelers) The Titans and Jags need DL or DE....so the possibility that a team could trade with the Steelers in order to get, say, Kentwan Balmer....or Philip Merling is a possibility. The Titans also need a WR, so if another team really wants/needs James Hardy, Malcolm Kelly or DeSean Jackson, they could trade up with the Steelers. There are other needs but the top two are most Likely DL or WR..... So what teams would trade up for those positions? We can eliminate the three teams I just mentioned and we can eliminate those teams in our division....sooooo. At WR....we may see Chicago...Washington.... Buffalo....and Tampa Bay. Possibly but maybe not as likely are teams like Miami...Oakland...Philly...New York Jets...and Denver. At DE we could see a trade with Washington.... St Louis ....Carolina...Houston....Tampa Bay...Carolina...Buffalo or Philly At DT the two most likely are Atlanta and Denver .....and possibly Indy.....Detroit....Carolina...and Oakland Since we could "conceivably" use our first round pick on WR and DE, teams may have to think hard about making that trade or losing a player they covet. So in order... what are the possibilities....??? Dolphins....2nd round pick is at #32...extra 2nd rounder...extra 6th rounder...extra 7th rounder Rams... 2nd round pick is #33 ...extra pick in the 6th round....extra pick in the 7th Falcons.... 2nd round pick is #37 and they have an extra 2nd ..an extra third...and an extra pick for Deangelo Hall Bills ....2nd round pick is #41.... two extra picks in the 3rd and two in the 7th rounds. Broncos..... 2nd round pick is #42 ..... extra pick in the 4th and 5th rounds. Bears....2nd round pick is #44......extra 4th rounder and 7th rounder Redskins.....2nd round pick is #51 ....extra 3rd rounder..and extra 7th rounder Buccaneers......2nd round pick is #52.... The Panthers and the Eagles also may make a play for our pick.... The Eagles have an extra 5th round and the Panthers have an extra 3rd round pick. Now keep in mind......... we wont trade with those teams who will drop us below...say....the #45 slot....so of those teams...that would leave the Bears, Bills, Chiefs, Dolphins, Falcons, Panthers, Rams, and the Raiders as the best-situated trade partners. If those teams already have used their first round pick on a WR or DL.... it reduces the possibilities. However, the only D-linemen above #23 are Glenn Dorsey and Sedric Ellis...and both those players should go in the top ten. There are about 6-7 WR's that could be takenin the 1st round and maybe 3 of them will be available #23. So the possibility of a trade is very promising...we will just have to keep an eye on how the 1st round works itsself out before the #23 slot....By watching what some of those possible trade partners do with there 1st pick ..we may be able to see if they are in position to trade in order to "fill a need" with a trade. |

In my dream mock draft for the Steelers I have them trading down with the Falcons based on the Falcons taking the BPA with their first pick and then wanting to grab a QB before Miami in the second round. With that 2nd round pick I wanted Quentin Groves and then Sam Baker with our 2nd second round pick... like I said "dream scenario".

I don't remember the Steelers trading down very often. I'm guessing you may know how many times it's happened in the past.
If anything I think we trade up if one of the OL they like slips down the board and is still available at 15-20. |

i dont think the redskins will move up for anyone. it seems they like the new coach having a full arsenal of picks. this is kinda like last year where we coulda easilly traded with the jets, so they could land revis. instead, they leapfrogged us and traded with carolina (hell of a deal for carolina). with dallas infront of us, and their recent history of trading down, i think that could be a strong possibility. i guarantee, if otah or albert start sliding, dallas will be listening to several offers for #22. we better be one of the ones talking. (it will cost us a 6th rounder to move from 23 to 22).

It very well may be a smart move to trade down if the OL we like are gone by 23.
I don't think most fans will look at it that way though....lol |

I just posted a scenario where we trade our 1st round pick with the Chiefs for their 2nd and 3rd. How does that work out on the value board??
Rationale is the Chiefs can upgrade OT and QB in the first and we can get 4 picks in the first 3 rounds to address OT, DT, CB, WR. |

There are several kids that will land in the 2nd and 3rd round that I would love to see play for us. Might be a good idea to start a list.
I think that our best frend may be Joe Flacco, he has been moving up the board quickly and if a couple teams that need a QB falls in love with him one of them may try to move up a little the get him.
